the following comes from the comic book Laugh #129, published in October of 1961. It came from a contest of sorts, with a young Kevin Wilson getting 3rd place with these 3 sentences... Two entire dollars as an award. This Kevin Wilson is probably in his 50s now...
"Rocket to the Moon"

Given time and money for research, a rocket capable of reaching the moon will certainly be made. To be successful, this rocket will need a speed of about 7 miles per second, or about 25,000 miles per hour, to carry it past the point where the Earth's gravitational pull could drag it back. Because of the differences in gravity, the rocket will need a speed of only 1 1/2 miles per second to leave the moon's atmosphere.

Yeah, well... congratulations to this great visionary, Kevin Wilson... Without the help of his short illuminating thoughts on the space program circa 1961, it is doubtful Neil Armstrong would have jumped around on the moon as he had... though, I wonder if he lived in constant dread believing that it would be the commies who would reach the moon first, thereby ensuring that the moon would become a Communist state.
