We need an economic candidate,&#8217; &#8221; Santorum recalled later, at a town hall meeting in New Hampshire. &#8220;And my answer to that was, &#8216;We always need a Jesus candidate, right?&#8217; &#8220;<\/em> [&#8230;]<\/p>\n<p>Though there&#8217;s apparently some inevitability from the &#8220;Team Jesus&#8221; contingency. \u00c2\u00a0That they&#8217;re just tossing their splot for Jesus as a fling.<\/p>\n<p><em>The mission of this &#8220;emergency meeting&#8221; is to unite behind one true-blue religious conservative for the Republican nomination. Fischer says evangelicals are desperate to defeat President Obama. But he does not believe former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney \u00e2\u20ac\u201d whom they distrust on issues such as abortion and same-sex marriage \u00e2\u20ac\u201d can generate the passion to do that.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>And yet, Land says: &#8220;Before we marry the guy next door, don&#8217;t you think we ought to have a fling with a tall dark stranger and see if he can support us in the manner to which we&#8217;d like to be accustomed? And if he can&#8217;t, we can always marry the steady beau who lives next door.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Huh. \u00c2\u00a0Yes. \u00c2\u00a0I just gnabbed this from the Stephen Colbert Show.<\/p>\n<p>I guess Team Jesus is now dividing themselves over Gingrich and Santorum, in their bid to fend off Romney. \u00c2\u00a0And what&#8217;s left is a desperate Perry taking this tact to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/politics\/perry-watch\/headlines\/20120115-perry-marines-in-urination-video-are-kids-not-criminals.ece\">appeal to this voting bloc<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Republican\u00c2\u00a0presidential hopeful\u00c2\u00a0Rick Perry\u00c2\u00a0on Sunday accused the\u00c2\u00a0Obamaadministration of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153over-the-top rhetoric\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and \u00e2\u20ac\u0153disdain for the military\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in its condemnation of a video that purportedly shows four Marines urinating on corpses in\u00c2\u00a0Afghanistan. [&#8230;]<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Perry said the Marines involved should be reprimanded but not prosecuted on criminal charges.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Obviously, 18-, 19-year-old kids make stupid mistakes all too often. And that&#8217;s what&#8217;s occurred here,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Perry told CNN&#8217;s\u00c2\u00a0State of the Union<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Ugh.<br \/>\nMitt Romney is, of course, going to have a double hard time with evangelical voters due to not only his Mormon religion, but his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2007\/05\/01\/defending-mitt-romney\/\">Scientology-related reading taste<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And one more thought: In 1992&#8211; when <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/cgi-bin\/article.cgi?f=\/c\/a\/2012\/01\/17\/MNCH1MOKS3.DTL&amp;type=politics\">Jerry Brown playing the role of Ron Paul in 2012, I guess<\/a>&#8230; Eugene McCarthy won a heaping healthy slice of the Florida primary vote, and thus ended up in a Democratic Party debate, where he&#8230; well&#8230; entertained himself by doodling and declaring a War on President Bush&#8217;s syntax, with Clinton and Brown diverting their eyes as much as they could. \u00c2\u00a0We can hope Stephen Colbert does&#8230; something&#8230; in a Republican Primary.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rick Santorum is ginning up for the anti-Romney slot. &#8220;He said, &#8216;We don&#8217;t need a Jesus candidate.
