And from the times we&#8217;ve seen it before, we know it doesn&#8217;t lead to a new heaven and a new earth.\u00c2\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em>It leads to Richard Nixon.\u00c2\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><\/em>This is a classic line, I&#8217;ve heard again and again. \u00c2\u00a0Lewis Black once mocked some left-wing protesters by charging &#8220;I mean&#8230; WE scared the public into voting for RICHARD NIXON! \u00c2\u00a0RICHARD NIXON, for Christ sake!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And Nixon continues to haunt the American political psyche.<\/p>\n<p>The threat to &#8220;occupy&#8221; the Iowa caucuses, of both the Republican and Democratic side incidentally (not that it matters on the Democratic side) is&#8230; fascinating. \u00c2\u00a0And goes to show where and how this thing divides around different places. \u00c2\u00a0Sarashon&#8217;s line is that we want the public to hear Michele Bachmann, thank you very much. \u00c2\u00a0Sure&#8230; if you think the parties or elections matter at all, and the politicians&#8230; even in the guise of feigning one way or the other on a people&#8217;s will in moving the conversation, and responding to something through the thick law codes dictated by the Oligarchy.<\/p>\n<p>And Michael Moore drops into town. \u00c2\u00a0Why? \u00c2\u00a0Got a book to peddle. \u00c2\u00a0Got an audience. \u00c2\u00a0A little too cynical, I have no doubt he also has sincere values.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;NIXON for Christ&#8217;s sake&#8221; is second only to the line about &#8220;Makes you long for Richard Nixon&#8221; we always heard during Bush, Reagan&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Somewhere after making a bad Herman Cain Pizza analogy, Oregonian editorial columnist David Sarashon makes this point about the Occupy movement.
