Call me crazy,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Huntsman tweeted Thursday afternoon.<\/a><br \/>\nHis path to the presidency is along the lines of McCain&#8217;s in 2000.\u00c2\u00a0 Win the Independent voting pool in New Hampshire &#8212; perhaps something along the lines of a people sick of the Tea Party and ready for &#8220;The Sane&#8221; &#8212; and then parlay that victory to a win in South Carolina and momentum from there on through the rest of the primaries &#8212; &#8220;Big Money&#8221;, I guess, consolidating behind him.\u00c2\u00a0 I doubt it.\u00c2\u00a0 Note McCain didn&#8217;t win, and he had a better and bigger opening in South Carolina than Huntsman did, and a bigger block at the starting gate in geo-cultural opposition at the starting gate.\u00c2\u00a0 Still &#8212; that figure, the one likely to win New Hampshire and on for the rest of the primaries &#8212; is in full pandering mode.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t know that you sign a membership,&#8221; he said. &#8220;What I consider myself is someone who is in sync with the Tea Party.&#8221; &#8212; <strong>Mitt Romney<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe Huntsman is pandering to &#8220;Captain Beefheart&#8221; fans &#8212; I don&#8217;t know.\u00c2\u00a0 That may be like suggesting Romney was pandering to Scientologists when he listed some L Ron Hubbard book as one of his favorite reads.<\/p>\n<p>Shifting through the muck of Bachmann versus Paul versus Perry.\u00c2\u00a0 <strong>Michele Bachmann<\/strong>: &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.oliverwillis.com\/2011\/08\/18\/michele-bachmann-i-worked-as-a-tax-lawyer-to-know-the-enemy\/\">Working from the Inside to bring the System Down<\/a>.&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 That&#8217;s how she explains her quasi-scandalous past job with the IRS.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s rhetoric which is being flowered out by a lot of politicians of this stripe &#8212; Alex Jones conjoled Rand Paul on that point &#8212; &#8220;Agent from Within&#8221;.\u00c2\u00a0 (And incidentally, <strong>Ron Pau<\/strong>l &#8212;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.barefootandprogressive.com\/2011\/08\/rand-paul-caves-to-military-industrial-complex-and-sticks-up-for-his-dad.html\"> his son sucks<\/a>, just in that way I thought he would when I cheekily and merrily labeled him &#8212; on this blog &#8212; a &#8220;neo-con&#8221;.)<\/p>\n<p>Bachmann won the Straw Poll with the help of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/politics\/archive\/2011\/08\/bachmann-staffer-arrested-for-terrorism-in-uganda-in-2006\/243711\/\">Arms Trader to Uganda for Jesus<\/a> Peter Waldron.\u00c2\u00a0 Ron Paul can&#8217;t get no respect &#8212; \u00c2\u00a0Look.\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.revolutimes.com\/\">A new Ron Paul fan website<\/a>, born out of the current controversy over nature of Paul&#8217;s coverage in the Ames Straw Poll.\u00c2\u00a0 Features a slashing against Bachmann.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rick Perry<\/strong>:<br \/>\n<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/politics\/archive\/2011\/08\/3-points-on-rick-perry\/243679\/\">Until I saw clips of him in the past two or three days<\/a>, I hadn&#8217;t realized how much watching and seeing Perry is just like having George W. Bush back in our living rooms. Maybe this will be an ingredient for strong conservative support. I can&#8217;t imagine that any sophisticated Republican operative thinks it&#8217;s a plus in winning 270 electoral votes. When Republicans ran against the first post-Nixon Democratic president, in 1980, they didn&#8217;t try to find someone who looked and sounded like Tricky Dick.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Gary Johnson<\/strong>:<em>\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/trailblazersblog.dallasnews.com\/archives\/2011\/07\/gary-johnson-thinks-perrys-tex.html\">Former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson originally thought Gov. Rick Perry was just impersonating another former Texas governor <\/a>who became involved in presidential politics, Politico reports.<\/em><em><br \/>\n&#8220;Have you ever heard Rick Perry talk? I thought when I listened to him talk, I thought he was doing a parody of George Bush. And I was looking around to see if anyone else saw the humor in that. And it wasn&#8217;t. It was just the way that he talked,&#8221; Johnson told Politico.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The way to get out of that, I suppose, is by mouthing rhetoric from Ron Paul about Ben Bernanke and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/stories\/0811\/61486.html\">angering the whole of the Bush Administration<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 After that &#8212; yep, <a href=\"http:\/\/motherjones.com\/kevin-drum\/2011\/08\/rick-perrys-billionaire-club\">quite Bush like<\/a> in fund-raising terms.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rick Santorum<\/strong> had a media- arbitrarily defined &#8220;good showing&#8221; at the arbitrarily hyped Ames poll, and went on to showcase with a<a href=\"http:\/\/maddowblog.msnbc.msn.com\/_news\/2011\/08\/16\/7389703-rick-santorums-new-ad-action-blurbs\">n ad presented in bold action font<\/a>&#8212; not quite on par with Pawlenty&#8217;s bold action ads.<\/p>\n<p>Though, <a href=\"http:\/\/newsandinsight.thomsonreuters.com\/Legal\/News\/2011\/08_-_August\/Santorum_site_using_stolen_font,_suit_says\/\">Santorum needs to watch it<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>A Dutch company on Tuesday launched a lawsuit against the company that designed the campaign website for Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum, accusing the site&#8217;s designer of illegally using its trademarked font.<br \/>\nTypotheque VOF is seeking at least $2 million in damages from RaiseDigital LLC, a Virginia-based consulting company that develops new media strategies for political campaigns and politicians.<br \/>\nAccording to the lawsuit, Santorum&#8217;s political action committee, America&#8217;s Foundation PAC, commissioned RaiseDigital to build ricksantorum.com, which serves as Santorum&#8217;s official 2012 presidential campaign website.<br \/>\nBut as early as June 30, the site began prominently featuring an &#8220;unauthorized derivative version&#8221; of a type of font called FEDRA, according to the complaint. Typotheque said it owns the trademark to the FEDRA font, but that it has not seen a dime from RaiseDigital in licensing fees.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Thaddeus McCotter<\/strong> gets called a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.threedonia.com\/archives\/42725\">Man of &#8220;Big Ideas&#8221;<\/a> &#8212; \u00c2\u00a0a<em>lso agree with Gabler that we have lost appreciation of big thinkers (look at our political classes\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 outside of Paul Ryan and <\/em>Thaddeus McCotter<em> I can&#8217;t think of a single big thinker on the national stage.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Also, he&#8217;s getting media attention where he can get it &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/ames.patch.com\/articles\/thaddeus-mccotter-took-a-spot-in-the-shade-for-the-straw-poll\">that patch website really does suck<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Still &#8212; local color &#8212; he&#8217;s assembling crowds in the &#8220;Shade&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Good news for Bachmann, and perhaps a sign of the cratering <strong>Roy Moore<\/strong> campaign.\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rightwingwatch.org\/content\/if-you-love-roy-moore-bachmann-good-second-choice\">A former Roy Moore supporter has jumped ship to the more &#8220;electable&#8221; Bachmann<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 (Maybe I should start treating Moore like one <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ballot-access.org\/2011\/08\/17\/sunshine-news-article-on-possibility-of-roy-moore-being-constitution-party-presidential-nominee\/\">of the third party candidates<\/a> &#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/swordof1611.webs.com\/jackfellure2012.htm\">&#8211; alongside the Prohibition Party&#8217;s nominated candidate<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Buddy Roemer<\/strong> has the desire to &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/hotlineoncall.nationaljournal.com\/archives\/2011\/08\/roemer-wants-to.php\">debate somewhere, sometime<\/a>&#8220;.\u00c2\u00a0 Yeah, good luck with that&#8230; Mr. &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.abcnews.com\/thenote\/2011\/08\/buddy-roemer-blasts-gop-candidates-for-pacs-financial-secrecy-a-president-needs-to-be-free-to-lead-.html\">Everyone is running around with secretive super-pacs<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s really weird to see the positive framing for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.examiner.com\/tea-party-in-dallas\/presidential-hopeful-herman-cain-urges-obama-impeachment\">things like this<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em>Successful businessman and black conservative candidate for the presidency, <strong>Herman Cain<\/strong> says that it would be a great idea to impeach President Barack Hussein Obama.<br \/>\n<\/em>Really, just because.<em>.. <\/em>Why not?<br \/>\nTheoretically you should present a reason for such a thing, but Cain doesn&#8217;t even feel the need to bother.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/healthwatch\/politics-elections\/177511-video-cain-if-obamacare-had-been-implemented-already-id-be-dead-\">Also a comment like this ends up getting a fair share of positive affirmations<\/a>.<br \/>\n<em>&#8220;If ObamaCare had been fully implemented when I caught cancer, I&#8217;d be dead,&#8221; Cain said.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Hm.\u00c2\u00a0 No.\u00c2\u00a0 Not even under the logic of the argument &#8212; &#8220;Successful Businessman&#8221; Millionaire.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wltx.com\/news\/article\/147916\/2\/Herman-Cain-Gives-Ideas-on-How-to-Stimulate-Economy\">Cain is a former CEO of Godfather&#8217;s Pizza, and has worked as an executive for Pillsbury and Burger King<\/a>. He said the way to fix the economy is by releasing the chief engine of growth: private business. Cain said there&#8217;s an uncertainty in the business world right now, and investors are holding on to their money, rather than investing in new projects.<br \/>\n&#8220;All we need to do is get government out of the way,&#8221; Cain said. &#8220;Get government off people&#8217;s backs, and the jobs will be there.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Good times!<\/p>\n<p>Why can&#8217;t Cain, Roemer, McCotter, and the politicians like them do what <strong>Newt Gingrich i<\/strong>s up to &#8212; dart your campaign with stuff like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/8301-503544_162-20093567-503544.html\">appearances in Hawaii<\/a>?\u00c2\u00a0 Surely how Gingrich will win &#8212; win the primaries and caucuses of America&#8217;s tourist destinations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jon Huntsman, Jr. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153To be clear.
