{"id":6866,"date":"2010-09-18T12:21:30","date_gmt":"2010-09-18T19:21:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/?p=6866"},"modified":"2010-09-18T13:01:36","modified_gmt":"2010-09-18T20:01:36","slug":"you-shall-not-crucify-mankind-upon-a-can-of-pepsi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2010\/09\/18\/you-shall-not-crucify-mankind-upon-a-can-of-pepsi\/","title":{"rendered":"You shall not crucify mankind upon a can of Pepsi."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What the Fu@# is going on?<\/p>\n<p>Explain the phone call to me.\u00c2\u00a0 &#8220;Yes.\u00c2\u00a0 We&#8217;re a polling firm and we&#8217;d like to ask a few questions to find out American attitudes about Religion.\u00c2\u00a0 Do you have a minute?&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;Sure.&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;Would you be in favor of, or opposed, to a Religious Revival lead by Glenn Beck?&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;&#8212;&#8212; er &#8212;&#8212;&#8212;-???&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Who polls such a question?<br \/>\nIncidentally, the percentage in support of such a thing is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newsok.com\/poll-glenn-beck-the-wrong-leader-to-lead-religious-movement\/article\/feed\/191618\">17 percent<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 The pollsters failed to dig deeper to find out what part of that segment favored a Glenn Beck lead Revival to follow him into the light personally, as opposed to Glenn Beck leading various people away from their purview so they don&#8217;t have to deal with them anymore.<\/p>\n<p>So.\u00c2\u00a0 A &#8220;Values Voters&#8221; Conference.\u00c2\u00a0 Which somehow gets suckered into the political cachet of a &#8220;Tea Party&#8221;.\u00c2\u00a0 Somewhere along the lines that claim about it all being about &#8220;fiscal sanity&#8221;, your Rick Santielli rant inspiration, falls apart.\u00c2\u00a0 Sure, we have this gilded Al Smith &#8212; Raskob &#8220;Liberty League&#8221; component shown with Rand Paul celebrating at an exclusive country club.\u00c2\u00a0 But then\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aolnews.com\/politics\/article\/will-social-conservatives-derail-the-tea-party-express\/19637949\">Joe Miller won off the coat-tails of an anti-abortion ballot initiative<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 And then&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/healthwatch\/health-reform-implementation\/119547-huckabee-slams-plan-to-ban-insurers-from-denying-coverage-to-sick-people\">Mike Huckabee presents a Health Care policy<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0Jesus would profit from.<\/p>\n<p>The last minute\u00c2\u00a0addition to the\u00c2\u00a0of the &#8220;Tea Party&#8221; &#8220;Values Voters&#8221; conference?\u00c2\u00a0 Christine O&#8217;Donnell.\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brooklynmutt.com\/post\/1138841600\/theyll-let-your-teenage-daughter-buy-an-abortion\">The catch-all line in her speech<\/a>, distilling her philsophy of what is wrong with America.:<br \/>\n&#8220;<em>They&#8217;ll let your teenage daughter buy an abortion, but they won\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t let her buy a sugary soda in her school\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s vending machine<\/em>.&#8221;<br \/>\nReally?\u00c2\u00a0 Christine O&#8217;Donnell is taking a stand in favor of Soda Machines in our public schools?\u00c2\u00a0 I suppose there&#8217;s something in there in deferring costs away from the tax payer dollars and to a bidding war between Pepsi and Coke for each school district.<\/p>\n<p>I grow weary of this crap.\u00c2\u00a0 Christine O&#8217;Donnell is electorally Alan Keyes Illinois 2008.\u00c2\u00a0 She&#8217;s even running against <a href=\"http:\/\/seminal.firedoglake.com\/diary\/71754\">a Kenyan Marxist<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 Could this get any more absurd?<br \/>\nOf course, if Christine O&#8217;Donnell is Alan Keyes&#8230; Rand Paul is Tom Coburn.<\/p>\n<p>What is kind of interesting is to read the Weekly Standard versus the American Conservative on O&#8217;Donnell.\u00c2\u00a0 Interesting, as Weekly Standard is generally more receptive (actually the biggest pushers) of Sarah Palin, and is more horrrified by O&#8217;Donnell.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amconmag.com\/blog\/2010\/09\/16\/the-war-on-christine-odonnell\/\">Read Pat Buchanan and ask yourself<\/a>:<br \/>\n<em>Are not these the same people who assisted George W. Bush in stampeding the nation into an unnecessary war that got 4,400 Americans killed to strip Saddam Hussein of weapons he did not have?<br \/>\n<\/em>I guess it shouldn&#8217;t all stop at that water&#8217;s edge, but did O&#8217;Donnell speak out much about foreign military adventures?<\/p>\n<p>Joe Miller?\u00c2\u00a0 We await to see how another unusual\u00c2\u00a0election plays out. \u00c2\u00a0Lisa Murkowski, as evidenced yesterday by an obscure blogger spotting <a href=\"http:\/\/whatdoino-steve.blogspot.com\/2010\/09\/signs-that-lisa-is-running.html\">the salvage operation of her campaign signs<\/a>, is running again.\u00c2\u00a0 She threw down the Guantlet.\u00c2\u00a0 &#8220;ENOUGH!&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 And now comes a write-in bid.\u00c2\u00a0 I do not know the ramnifications.\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com\/2010\/09\/17\/murkowski-can-win-as-write-in\/#more-1121\">Nate Silver thinks she has a good chance<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 Various right wing blogs are gloating that this puts the nail in the coffin for Miller&#8217;s victory.\u00c2\u00a0 That may be wishful thinking of a type that may be true, but if it were false they&#8217;d be saying that anyway.\u00c2\u00a0 Note the National Review statement before the announcement that it&#8217;d cost a seat.<br \/>\nThe electoral map of Joe Miller&#8217;s victory over Lisa Murkowski is apparently about the same on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swingstateproject.com\/diary\/7496\/aksen-just-look-at-the-eye-candy\">the Alaska electoral map as the 2008 Senate victory of Jeff Begich over Ted Stevens<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 This works this way all the time &#8212; don&#8217;t be surprised if you map out the same effect for Hillary Clinton versus Barack Obama as against John McCain versus Barack Obama.<br \/>\nI suppose the hope for McAdams is that he would collect Murkowski anti-Miller voters that are too lazy to write in her name in, and that those voters who are motivated to write in Murkowski would not have voted for him anyways.<\/p>\n<p>Alaska&#8217;s situation is similar to\u00c2\u00a0Florida&#8217;s.\u00c2\u00a0 There, we see the current Republican surging ahead of the former Republican, the Democrat popularly supposed to never had any chance.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s an interesting dynamic, as Election Day will come and a bunch of Democratic voters will have to suck it up and make\u00c2\u00a0a leap of faith in voting.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com\/2010\/09\/16\/palin-steers-odonnell-to-fox-news\/\">On to Fox News<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lvrj.com\/blogs\/smith\/Angles_view_of_the_debate_that_didnt_happen.html?ref=314\">everybody<\/a>!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What the Fu@# is going on?
