{"id":6855,"date":"2010-09-16T13:57:24","date_gmt":"2010-09-16T20:57:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/?p=6855"},"modified":"2010-09-16T13:57:24","modified_gmt":"2010-09-16T20:57:24","slug":"christine-odonnell-versus-carl-paladiano","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2010\/09\/16\/christine-odonnell-versus-carl-paladiano\/","title":{"rendered":"Christine O&#8217;Donnell versus Carl Paladiano"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Christine O&#8217;Donnell was the Republican nominee for Senate in 2008.\u00c2\u00a0 Nobody noticed, because she wasn&#8217;t going to win.\u00c2\u00a0 Skip forward to 2010, and she is receiving a lot of attention, even though her General election result will be about the same.\u00c2\u00a0 You do have to admire the &#8220;Tea Party&#8221; Movement for one thing: they had a clear Primary Election Choice &#8212; pick one and there will be a Republican Senator in Delaware, pick the other and there will be a Democratic Senator in Delaware.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 In this respect, it was\u00c2\u00a0a clearer choice than any other state where the Tea Party candidate upended the Republican Establishment pick.\u00c2\u00a0 They chose the latter.<\/p>\n<p>I remember Christine O&#8217;Donnell from her many appearances on &#8220;Politically Incorrect&#8221; with Bill Maher.\u00c2\u00a0 The one appearance I remember &#8212; and I don&#8217;t really know why &#8212; had her on the same show as Marilyn Manson.\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theonion.com\/articles\/marilyn-manson-now-going-doortodoor-trying-to-shoc,459\/\">You remember that guy<\/a>?\u00c2\u00a0 She insisted on calling him by his real name.\u00c2\u00a0 It seemed to be the crux of her battle &#8212; I guess it&#8217;d gain some psychological advantage for her.<\/p>\n<p>By the way &#8212; Karl Rove?\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.humanevents.com\/article.php?id=39021\">Liberal!<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>They said only Mike Castle could beat this guy.\u00c2\u00a0 Mike Castle couldn&#8217;t even beat a woman with all this character rectitude, all this baggage that has been labeled on her and dumped on her.<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0 I suppose that&#8217;s the price one pays for a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prospect.org\/csnc\/blogs\/tapped_archive?month=09&amp;year=2010&amp;base_name=the_gop_the_democrats_built\">Republican voter roll shrunken<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>All these problems that she has, paying off loans and so forth? Who the hell doesn&#8217;t?\u00c2\u00a0 Who the hell hasn&#8217;t had a run-in with the IRS?\u00c2\u00a0 So she&#8217;s had a run-in with the IRS.\u00c2\u00a0 That&#8217;s a resume enhancement to a lot of people!<br \/>\n<\/em>Put a &#8220;D&#8221; behind her name, or find yourself a &#8220;RINO&#8221;, and I doubt this argument would be made.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Anyway&#8230; we&#8217;re all making fun of her &#8220;Saviors Alliance for Truth&#8221; comments against Masturbation, and the like.\u00c2\u00a0 Somehow that quotation from an MTV appearance gets cut off before the real punchline:<br \/>\n<em>&#8220;The reason that you don&#8217;t tell them that Masturbation is not the answer to AIDS and the other problems that come with sex outside of marriage is that, again, it is not addressing the issue&#8230;<br \/>\nYou&#8217;re going to be pleasing each other.\u00c2\u00a0 And if he already knows what pleases him and he can please himself, <strong>than why am I in the picture<\/strong>?&#8221;<br \/>\n<\/em>Don&#8217;t know.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway&#8230; skip over to <a href=\"http:\/\/tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com\/2010\/04\/tea_party_gov_candidates_racist_sexually_graphic_e.php\">the New York Republican Gubernatorial winner<\/a>, and we see an interesting split in the &#8220;Tea Party&#8221;:<\/p>\n<p><em>An online news outlet in New York state has <\/em><span style=\"color: #aa0000;\"><em>obtained dozens of emails<\/em><\/span><em>, many of them racist and sexually graphic, which it reports were sent by Carl Paladino, the Tea-Party-backed Republican candidate for governor of New York, to a long list of political and business associates. One email shows a video of an African tribal dance, entitled &#8220;Obama Inauguration Rehearsal,&#8221; while another depicts hardcore bestiality.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Paladino&#8217;s campaign manager, Michael Caputo, would not comment on specific emails, but acknowledged to TPMmuckraker that Paladino had sent emails that were &#8220;off-color&#8221; and &#8220;politically incorrect,&#8221; saying that few such emails represented the candidate&#8217;s own opinion.
