{"id":6242,"date":"2010-06-04T12:01:13","date_gmt":"2010-06-04T19:01:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/?p=6242"},"modified":"2010-06-04T12:01:13","modified_gmt":"2010-06-04T19:01:13","slug":"the-gulf-oil-naturalists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2010\/06\/04\/the-gulf-oil-naturalists\/","title":{"rendered":"the Gulf Oil Naturalists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few days ago, The Weekly Standard website &#8212; Bill Kristol actually &#8212; broke the story &#8212; and who knows where their sources came from for this one &#8212; that Sarah Palin&#8217;s facebook page <a href=\"http:\/\/www.weeklystandard.com\/blogs\/palin-reacts-flotilla-incident\">was about to be updated <\/a>with her views on the situation with the Gaza flotilla and Israel.<br \/>\nThe mind boggles.<\/p>\n<p>I guess if Palin&#8217;s facebook messages and tweets are considered news, it&#8217;s a &#8220;get&#8221; when you get the information before it is posted.\u00c2\u00a0 Sadly, I wasn&#8217;t privvy to her next news burst, so I had to stand behind everyone else to <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/SarahPalinUSA\/status\/15216694830\">get the news<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Extreme Greenies:see now why we push&#8221;drill,baby,drill&#8221;of known reserves&amp;promising finds in safe onshore places like ANWR? Now do you get it?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Sarah Palin can &#8220;tweet&#8221; that with a straight face.\u00c2\u00a0 Though, it was basically cribbed from Charles Krauthammer.\u00c2\u00a0 I will give them one thing: at least they acknowledge the Oil Gusher&#8217;s existence, and problematic nature.\u00c2\u00a0 You would think we have come a ways from some early considerations &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2010\/05\/04\/chocolate-milk-you-say\/\">Mississippi Congress guy Gene Taylor<\/a>, for instance, or\u00c2\u00a0Fox News broadcaster Brit Hume who demanded to know &#8220;Where&#8217;s the oil?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Don Young from Alaska makes the new contrarian <a href=\"http:\/\/www.investingcontrarian.com\/global\/don-young-gulf-oil-spill-not-an-environmental-disaster\/\">point of order.<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0 &#8220;<em>This is not an environmental disaster, and I will say that again and again because it is a natural phenomenon<\/em>.&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 I have the sense of &#8220;I guess&#8221; around about those parts.\u00c2\u00a0 I was bracing myself for these considerations, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lewrockwell.com\/spl2\/how-oil-breaks-down-in-water.html\">I knew that lewrockwell.com would bring their own slant <\/a>to a scientific magazine that explains oil brekdown.\u00c2\u00a0 Look &#8212; I am as big a fan of George Carlin&#8217;s classic &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.armageddononline.org\/george-carlin.html\">The Planet is fine<\/a>&#8221; bit as anyone, and I do not cry for the fate of the Planet at the hands of humans.\u00c2\u00a0 Yep, the Earth will reorganize its ecosystems quite well.\u00c2\u00a0 Sure, all we really care about is our home-land, with consideration for\u00c2\u00a0 Wild Life\u00c2\u00a0remaining in terms of\u00c2\u00a0Museum Pieces.\u00c2\u00a0 Happy now?<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s just that\u00c2\u00a0I don&#8217;t know if we can get all that excited by the prospects of\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.opednews.com\/articles\/BP-takes-a-leak-on-America-by-Allan-Goldstein-100516-989.html\">building a new theme park<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>The La Brea Tar Pits Company has bought the Gulf of Mexico for its newest theme park. You can&#8217;t believe the petrified bird collection they&#8217;ve already assembled for the viewing public! And the whole thing is in 3D, just like Avatar.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Pretty soon everyone will want their own La Brea Tar Pits\u00c2\u00a0pretty shorty, so\u00c2\u00a0the\u00c2\u00a0Gulf of Mexico might as well start the trend<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailytelegraph.com.au\/news\/opinion\/gloval-warming-fear-heats-up-global-madness\/story-e6frezz0-1225864229290\">\u00c2\u00a0now!<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Some days into the spill, the Wall Street Journal reported: &#8220;Wildlife rescuers are treating the first oiled bird.&#8221; It was a northern gannet, in case you&#8217;re keeping a wall chart. Then, on Saturday, the Associated Press had further oily bird news: Apparently &#8220;several birds&#8221; were spotted diving into the Gulf&#8217;s oil-fouled waters.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Thousands of crude-coated creatures will probably appear in news pictures by the time this column runs, but so what?
