{"id":5928,"date":"2010-04-22T20:14:11","date_gmt":"2010-04-23T03:14:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/?p=5928"},"modified":"2010-04-22T20:14:11","modified_gmt":"2010-04-23T03:14:11","slug":"mother-should-i-trust-the-government","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2010\/04\/22\/mother-should-i-trust-the-government\/","title":{"rendered":"Mother Should I Trust the Government?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Question:\u00c2\u00a0 what does it mean that &#8220;The Government&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/people-press.org\/report\/606\/trust-in-government\">has such a low trust rating<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>Well, one thing is that the Trust Rating at its height &#8212; the fat complacent and comfortable Eisenhower years &#8212; was an absurd inflation.\u00c2\u00a0 There were just as many, if not more, reasons, to distrust the Government at that point in time than there are now.<\/p>\n<p>The next problem is this sort of question of what precisely does this mean?\u00c2\u00a0 The Government is not a monolithic entity.\u00c2\u00a0 I don&#8217;t want to ever say that I Trust such a thing, but I do &#8220;trust&#8221; this thing in it and that thing in it.\u00c2\u00a0 Meantime, I kind of just have to resent the question, because to answer it is to know that analysts will be making broad conclusions with the numbers.\u00c2\u00a0 Look at it this way:\u00c2\u00a0 you know I.F. Stone?\u00c2\u00a0 A great Leftist man.\u00c2\u00a0 Last year he was embroiled into a long-standing controversy with various right-wing and conservative Honchos shouting in triumph a supposed &#8220;confirmation&#8221; that he was a Soviet Spy!\u00c2\u00a0 Meantime, there&#8217;s a pretty good quote that I see bandied about from various Libertarians &#8212; &#8220;All Governments Lie.&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 To wit, he would answer the question with a negative.\u00c2\u00a0 And his answer heads into an entirely different direction than &#8212; say &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/chattahbox.com\/us\/2010\/04\/19\/armed-gun-rights-activists-muster-in-va-to-make-fools-of-themselves\/\">this clown<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Meantime, go down the list.\u00c2\u00a0 Nobody trusts a damned Authority in their lives right now.\u00c2\u00a0 The Republican Senate front runner, Sue Lowden &#8212; spells out a matter of government authority by coming out in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ktvn.com\/Global\/story.asp?S=12360493\">favor of the Barter System<\/a> as a different tact than the &#8220;Massive Government Take-over&#8221; of Obama&#8217;s Health Insurance Reform.\u00c2\u00a0 Interesting devolution for Collateral being put up for Big Business.\u00c2\u00a0 And what can we say about Organized Religion?\u00c2\u00a0 The Catholic Church is not inspiring much trust right now.\u00c2\u00a0 And Islam is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/04\/23\/arts\/television\/23park.html?ref=television\">busy picking a fight with South Park<\/a> for reasons neglected before 9\/11.\u00c2\u00a0 Works well enough &#8212; remain skeptical &#8212; Trust But Verify, Verify before Trust, etc etc.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Question:\u00c2\u00a0 what does it mean that &#8220;The Government&#8221; has such a low trust rating?
