I have said as much<\/a>, with the caveat that that is not the interesting story here.\u00c2\u00a0 (The interesting story is that the whole thing adds up to a a crack in\u00c2\u00a0television business model, and the current\u00c2\u00a0model will not hold.)\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 Frankly, though, I am a little annoyed by the ideological \/ partisan working that comes with these things.\u00c2\u00a0 We need to shoehorn this all into the red\/blue divide, and so:<\/p>\n

In the end, Conan O\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Brien\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s partisans don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t seem to care much about any of that. They\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re more concerned about making sure the world knows how sophisticated they are and that NBC went the Middle America route. Yet if everyone who claimed to adore Conan O\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Brien during the last few weeks had actually watched his program, he\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d still be hosting the Tonight Show.<\/em><\/p>\n

Sophisticated?\u00c2\u00a0 Sophisticated?\u00c2\u00a0 Like, Masturbating Bear Sophisticated?<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, I also see from Conan’s detractors \/ the big hulp of masses backing Leno in the comments section around these parts for instance<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0— the adjective — sophomoric<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Or have we entered this\u00c2\u00a0period of so-called sophisticates reveling in the sophomoric?\u00c2\u00a0 (I guess by definition, the quotation-mark “Sophistication” goes with the definition of sophomoric– or juvenile with a pretense of grander things.)<\/p>\n

But your\u00c2\u00a0basic problem with Conan is that — if you want to rate his professional work, it’d probably go something like:
\n#1: The Monorail Episode of the Simpsons
\n#2: The final 2 weeks of The Tonight Show
\n#3: Late Night
\n#4: The rest of the Tonight Show
\n#5: SNL.\u00c2\u00a0 He\u00c2\u00a0wrote the\u00c2\u00a0“Pump You Up” bit, right?\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n

“The Chin”‘s appearance on Oprah served as the “Jump the Shark” moment for the\u00c2\u00a0“Late Night Wars”.\u00c2\u00a0 It all\u00c2\u00a0leaves me yearning for the days where you could stray from Carson to watch Joey\u00c2\u00a0 Bishop<\/a>.<\/p>\n

… Which is today, actually.\u00c2\u00a0 And with NBC scrubbing out Conan, we may just end up with more Joey Bishop than Conan O’brien available at our disposal.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
