slideshow <\/a>has been getting\u00c2\u00a0the greatest\u00c2\u00a0amount of attention, from a page that has been <a href=\"http:\/\/wonkette.com\/411598\/sweet-crickets-this-new-gop-website-is-one-helluva-funbag\">mocked<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/wonkette.com\/411611\/yo-what-up-what-up\">mercilessly<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/wonkette.com\/411594\/a-childrens-treasury-of-gop-faces-from-the-hot-new-gop-website\">and on<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0since Launch.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 The observation lies around the fact that what we have a pretty\u00c2\u00a0good domination\u00c2\u00a0from\u00c2\u00a0 from the birth of the Republican Party in the second half of the nineteenth, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gop.com\/index.php\/learn\/heroes\/everett_dirksen-1\/\">Senator Everett Dirkson<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0in their white-washed version of the history of the Civil Rights Era, Jackie Robinson before denouncing the party in 1964, Susan B Anthony, a couple of other<\/p>\n<p>The message that the new gop page wants to relay is,<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gop.com\/index.php\/learn\/heroes\/mary_terrell\/\"> to quote their quote of Mary Terrell<\/a>, &#8220;\u00c2\u00a0 <em>\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Every right that has been bestowed upon blacks was initiated by the Republican Party\u00e2\u20ac\u009d,\u00c2\u00a0<\/em>said\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0on behalf of the President Harding campaign.\u00c2\u00a0 That is\u00c2\u00a0a generally paternalistic attitude that misses a few points, but to put in its historic context, it\u00c2\u00a0was said on behalf of President Warren Harding roughly ninety freaking years ago.<br \/>\nAnd regarding the exclusive club that Harding is in, the Line of Presidents of the United States, the &#8220;GOP Hereoes&#8221; consists of Abraham Lincoln, Dwight Eisenhower, and Ronald Reagan.\u00c2\u00a0 No mention of poor Harding.<\/p>\n<p>This take on party history was apparently mined from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Back-Basics-Republican-Party-Third\/dp\/0970006322\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=books&amp;qid=1255560568&amp;sr=8-1\">Michael Zak book Back to Basics<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 But, looking down this assortment of Abolitionists and female <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gop.com\/index.php\/learn\/heroes\/ellen_foster\/\">Temperance leaders<\/a>, heavily weighted to the nineteenth century, and knowing that Jackie Robinson is the most mocked inclusion, I am still drawn to&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Wait, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gop.com\/index.php\/learn\/heroes\/jos_celso_barbosa\/\">who&#8217;s this guy?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>As much as we question whether the Republican Party of the late nineteenth century has too much relation to the Republican Party of the early twenty-first, I have to wonder if the Republican Party of the mainline United States has much relation to the Republican Party of the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jos%C3%A9_Celso_Barbosa\">Puerto Rican colony at the time of Theodore Roosevelt&#8217;s rough-riders<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This &#8220;Americans Heroes and Famous Republicans&#8221;
