Bush on Palin<\/a>:
\nAfter Palin\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s selection was announced, the same people who demanded I acknowledge the brilliance of McCain\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s choice expected the president to join them in their high-fiving tizzy. It was clear, though, that the president, ever the skilled politician, had concerns about the choice of Palin, which he called \u00e2\u20ac\u0153interesting.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d That was the equivalent of calling a fireworks display \u00e2\u20ac\u0153satisfactory.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u0153I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m trying to remember if I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve met her before. I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m sure I must have.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d His eyes twinkled, then he asked, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153What is she, the governor of Guam?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/em><\/p>\n

Everyone in the room seemed to look at him in horror, their mouths agape. When Ed told him that conservatives were greeting the choice enthusiastically, he replied, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Look, I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m a team player, I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m on board.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d He thought about it for a minute. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153She\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s interesting,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d he said again. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153You know, just wait a few days until the bloom is off the rose.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Then he made a very smart assessment.<\/em><\/p>\n

I was pretty sure that I had done an different one of these things <\/a>since this thing, but I can’t find it off-hand.\u00c2\u00a0 Ah de well.\u00c2\u00a0 Sanford, of course, is out.\u00c2\u00a0 The Kid was always a joke of a pick.\u00c2\u00a0 Joe The Plumber may finally have exhausted his 15 minutes well enough.\u00c2\u00a0 I’m thinking that Michael Steele may just be irrelevant enough.\u00c2\u00a0 And, to mull the GQ article is to mull whether we may as well end the door on George W Bush.<\/p>\n

Though, Cheney continues to reverberate.<\/p>\n

Fill those five seats with some Southern Senators, or a Rick Perry.\u00c2\u00a0 And, to mull that video and the Washington DC rally is to state this uncomfortable reality.<\/p>\n

Dick Armey would have to fill a slot.\u00c2\u00a0 And,\u00c2\u00a0in consideration in particular of\u00c2\u00a0some of the questions floated out in the\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Glen Beck would have to be slotted right in.<\/p>\n

An impressive bunch?<\/p>\n

Something swirling around my mind a bit, though.\u00c2\u00a0 I project somewhere between a small to a mildly large Democratic loss in 2010, and a\u00c2\u00a0good sized\u00c2\u00a0Obama victory in 2012.\u00c2\u00a0 Given that — and things can happen between now and 2010 or 2012, and given the activist Republican\u00c2\u00a0base’s projection on where America is with Obama — perhaps to be buoyed by partisan gains in 2010, and perhaps even with a spotted 40s approval rating here or there between now and 2012… and to turn on an am dial of the radio and roll across the dial is to hear one Republican bloviator after another that amplifys their projections on where America stands…<\/p>\n
