One thing\u00c2\u00a0I neglected to mention about Doc Hastings:<\/p>\n

Doc Hastings made an\u00c2\u00a0appearance on Fox News,\u00c2\u00a0the great disseminating tool for the\u00c2\u00a0Republican Party.\u00c2\u00a0 This clip\u00c2\u00a0was posted to his facebook page<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 It is not a good performance; it is not a bad performance — save yourself the few minutes and don’t push “play”.\u00c2\u00a0 Hastings said nothing noteworthy, and\u00c2\u00a0the\u00c2\u00a0host lead him through the interview.<\/p>\n

A minute and a half into the clip, the bullet-point pops up on Hastings.\u00c2\u00a0 He “Served 8 Years in WA State Legislature”, “Joined House of Reps in 1994”, and “Ran Family’s Small Business”.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 And I guess the audience has now been briefed on who the heck this guy is<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 The actual appearance on a national venue\u00c2\u00a0was novel enough that local press had to note<\/a>:<\/p>\n

It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not exactly prime time, but Rep. Doc Hastings was ready when Fox News called<\/em> this morning<\/em>.<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0
\nInteresting enough:
\nHastings, the Pasco Republican, has emerged as a leading critic of the Obama administration<\/strong> from his perch as ranking minority on the House Natural Resources Committee.<\/em><\/p>\n

So.\u00c2\u00a0 Does his one appearance sometime in the afternoon on Fox News fore-tell increased visibility of Doc Hastings as a public voice of the Republican party?\u00c2\u00a0 (And remember,\u00c2\u00a0 his battle to\u00c2\u00a0bring down the \u00c2\u00a0population of wild horses is attracting celebrity opposition<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

Sure.\u00c2\u00a0 Why not?\u00c2\u00a0 The Republicans need somebody to point out there.\u00c2\u00a0 As George Voinovich said of the current Republican party:<\/p>\n

Sen. George Voinovich, the former governor of Ohio, made waves when <\/em>he told The Columbus Dispatch<\/em> “we got too many Jim DeMints and Tom Coburns.”<\/em><\/p>\n

“It’s the southerners,” he said. “They get on TV and go ‘errrr, errrrr.’ People hear them and say, ‘These people, they’re southerners. The party’s being taken over by southerners. What they hell they got to do with Ohio?'”<\/em><\/p>\n

Hastings has, so far as I can tell, not gone on tv and gone “errr, errrr.”\u00c2\u00a0 Then again, until that blip of a Fox News interview, he\u00c2\u00a0hasn’t had the chance.\u00c2\u00a0 Another possibility:\u00c2\u00a0 Fox News needed to find a Republican to follow through that talking point kabuki dance, and went down the list.<\/p>\n

In other\u00c2\u00a0 “will have the job so long as he wants it” entrenched Northwest Republican Congress-critter news<\/em>, Greg Walden is railing against the “Fairness Doctrine”.\u00c2\u00a0 Seems a waste of time.\u00c2\u00a0 Noteworthy,\u00c2\u00a0one argument Hastings makes about (ahem)\u00c2\u00a0“Welfare for Wild Horses” act is that it’s out of place for our national priorities.\u00c2\u00a0 Which means he should be on the phone to Walden\u00c2\u00a0to nix his “Fairness Doctrine” cause.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
