{"id":4393,"date":"2009-07-25T12:12:49","date_gmt":"2009-07-25T19:12:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/?p=4393"},"modified":"2009-07-25T12:12:49","modified_gmt":"2009-07-25T19:12:49","slug":"2012-republican-presidential-cattle-call-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2009\/07\/25\/2012-republican-presidential-cattle-call-4\/","title":{"rendered":"2012 Republican Presidential Cattle Call #4"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last time I pushed through this arena of a joke &#8212; the\u00c2\u00a0joke comes from the fact that the election is 3.5 years\u00c2\u00a0away &#8211;\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2009\/06\/23\/2012-republican-presidential-cattle-call-rankings-3\/\">it was June 23rd<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 Well, I suppose I can throw this up again.<\/p>\n<p>#1:\u00c2\u00a0 Mitt Romney.\u00c2\u00a0 From out of nowhere, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.deseretnews.com\/article\/705318040\/Romney-Obama-neck-and-neck-in-a-poll-of-1000-likely-voters.html\">a poll shows a neck and neck race<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0with Obama.\u00c2\u00a0 Though, of course, the question is operable:\u00c2\u00a0 <em>This has to be the silliest poll ever. Obama has been in office less than six months. The elections are over 3.5 years away. What exactly does one expect to learn from a poll now?<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0 Romney&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nebraska.tv\/Global\/story.asp?S=10759906&amp;nav=menu605_2\">rolling into Nebraska<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0(as we all know, the Nebraska Primary is HUGE)\u00c2\u00a0, he&#8217;s getting an exciting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.necn.com\/Boston\/Politics\/2009\/06\/30\/Romneys-gubernatorial\/1246413658.html\">painting of himself unveiled<\/a>, he&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/2009\/07\/01\/romney-urges-republicans-stand-obamas-policies\/\">trying to stop Health Car<\/a>e and is trying to wriggle out of his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/2009\/07\/20\/massachusetts-health-care-woes-cast-cloud-romney-bid\/?test=latestnews\">state&#8217;s Health Care for his base<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.accuracy.org\/newsrelease.php?articleId=2040\">which under the right circumstances would be a good thing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>#2:\u00c2\u00a0 Mike Huckabee.\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kfsm.com\/sns-ap-ar--arkansasperspective-analysis,0,82080.story\">Some AP analysis<\/a>:\u00c2\u00a0 <em>Mike Huckabee is turning into a front-runner for his party&#8217;s 2012 presidential nomination almost by default<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 (You know&#8230; the election is 3.5 years away?)\u00c2\u00a0 Well, in the run up for such a thing, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.politicsdaily.com\/2009\/07\/24\/huckabee-pac-in-trouble\/\">Huck Pac is restructuring<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>#3:\u00c2\u00a0 Sarah Palin.\u00c2\u00a0 Had I posted this a few weeks&#8217; back, I would have had her as #2.\u00c2\u00a0 Not that I&#8217;m thinking too hard about this matter.\u00c2\u00a0 (Did I mention the election is 3.5 years away?)\u00c2\u00a0 She now leaves her seat as governorship of Alaska to tour America, quitting one thing to do another thing altogether.\u00c2\u00a0 Sarah Pac is apparently doing swimmingly in donations garnered.\u00c2\u00a0 Rush loves her and has taken up her cause.\u00c2\u00a0 She used <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2009\/07\/21\/AR2009072102949.html?hpid=moreheadlines\">official government office for personal purpose<\/a>, but who hasn&#8217;t done that?\u00c2\u00a0 Also, she has found th perfect tool to rebut these problems: Twitter!<\/p>\n<p>Also she keeps popping up on ad-buys on my computer screen.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s rather bizarre.\u00c2\u00a0 I don&#8217;t quite understand it.\u00c2\u00a0 Am I to donate to Sarah-Pac from various websites that do not much like her?\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s that type of\u00c2\u00a0Maverickyness &#8212; that she feels bold enough to insert ads at poe-news, that keeps her up to #3.<\/p>\n<p>#4.\u00c2\u00a0 Condoleezza Rice.\u00c2\u00a0 What &#8212; was that too random for you?\u00c2\u00a0 A throw-back to the old Dick Morris charade of a book?\u00c2\u00a0 Well, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.angus-reid.com\/polls\/view\/33862\/americans_assess_gop_contenders_in_2012\/\">check this out!<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0 Actually, this begs the question&#8230; who the heck is Gary Johnson?<\/p>\n<p>#5:\u00c2\u00a0 Gary Johnson.\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gary_E._Johnson\">Like his haircut<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 That&#8217;s enough to throw him up the list. \u00c2\u00a0Has a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/group.php?gid=38552147212\">facebook page pushing his presidency<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 Remind me to look up Rice to see if she has a facebook page.\u00c2\u00a0 I bet she does.<\/p>\n<p>#6:\u00c2\u00a0 Bobby Jindal.\u00c2\u00a0 Back in the game, back in the swing of things.\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2009\/07\/19\/AR2009071902126.html\">Writing op-eds<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 That&#8217;s how you stay in the game.\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2009\/07\/23\/jindal-cashes-in-on-stimu_n_243812.html\">He&#8217;s also waving giant sized novelty checks<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0&#8212; part of the &#8220;have it both ways&#8221; nature of opposing and supporting Federal Stimulus.<\/p>\n<p>#7:\u00c2\u00a0 Dan Quayle.\u00c2\u00a0 I take the opportunity to point out that\u00c2\u00a0someone sought out his opinion on things.\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/hostednews\/ap\/article\/ALeqM5hNfSifxAF9VNk8qYamTqdrHrD3xgD99H01F00\"> And he provided\u00c2\u00a0a headline grabbing soundbyte<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 This doesn&#8217;t really portend a presidential run, but in case you haven&#8217;t figured it out, I&#8217;m not really taking this list seriously.<\/p>\n<p>#8\u00c2\u00a0 Mike Pence.\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.iowapolitics.com\/index.iml?Article=165420\">He&#8217;s in Iowa<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 That does portend a presidential run.\u00c2\u00a0 Kind of.\u00c2\u00a0 He urges a return to the values of Ronald Reagan and Newt Gingrich.\u00c2\u00a0 Anyway, they&#8217;re getting used to him in Iowa &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.desmoinesregister.com\/dmr\/index.php\/2009\/07\/25\/mike-pence-soaring-rhetoric-looks-like-race-bannon\/\">trying to get a good idea of what he looks like<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0<br \/>\nMeanwhile, Pence is throwing himself in with what they all are involved in these days &#8212; slowing down Health Care, grinding it to a hault.<\/p>\n<p>#9:\u00c2\u00a0 Ron Paul.\u00c2\u00a0 Because <a href=\"http:\/\/politics.theatlantic.com\/2009\/07\/pollsters_put_ron_paul_in.php\">they asked for his inclusion in these things<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 But I think Gary Johnson\u00c2\u00a0might be\u00c2\u00a0his new &#8220;more mainstream&#8221; stand in, now that Mark Sanford has been sliced away.<\/p>\n<p>Well, in a month I&#8217;ll come back and see how things have rejumbled themselves.\u00c2\u00a0 Who knows?\u00c2\u00a0 Maybe Tim Pawlenty will re-emerge back onto the list somewhere.\u00c2\u00a0 That would be quite a comeback.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last time I pushed through this arena of a joke &#8212;
