I have half a mind to finangle from\u00c2\u00a0Daniel Pinkwater’s Lizard Music something of Victor’s dreams of Roger Mudd reporting on Walter Cronkite disappearing, in lieu of anything to say. \u00c2\u00a0Walter Cronkite was before my time.\u00c2\u00a0 I respect his Giant role in American culture, media, and news.\u00c2\u00a0 And I\u00c2\u00a0acknowledge the changes in American society that have broken our culture into a million little pieces away from the day a Walter Cronkite could hold such sway.<\/p>\n

But something that I need to say.\u00c2\u00a0 Over the years, I’ve heard about Walter Cronkite being named “America’s Most Trusted Man”, coming from a survey in the early 1970s.\u00c2\u00a0 That is all good and well.\u00c2\u00a0 But it’s meaningless.\u00c2\u00a0 An Observer from Mars would learn that Walter Cronkite was America’s Most Trusted Man, then learn that Richard Nixon was America’s second Most Trusted Man, and come to the conclusion that the word “trust” has no meaning.<\/p>\n

Then the Martian Observer would say, “And that’s the way it is,” and leave Earth.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
