{"id":43067,"date":"2022-08-07T16:48:06","date_gmt":"2022-08-07T23:48:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/?p=43067"},"modified":"2022-08-07T16:48:06","modified_gmt":"2022-08-07T23:48:06","slug":"try-alaskas-system-next-time-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2022\/08\/07\/try-alaskas-system-next-time-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Try Alaska&#8217;s system next time up"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In that odd side swiping constellation of ten Republicans who voted to impeach Trump, and the over hanging question of who will survive &#8212; and where we knew Dan New house would make a go &#8212; and damned if he didn&#8217;t need Democrats to come out and do it for him &#8212;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Democrat came in first place, as it turned out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But that other Washington district.  Oddly not as red, which may be the ondoing &#8212; fewer votes to scrounge up from, as they rally with the Democrat, against a right flanking competition.  So today, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.koin.com\/news\/elections\/herrera-beutler-kent-in-razor-thin-congressional-race\/\">she leads for second place by a three digit &#8220;dwindling&#8221; vote cou<\/a>nt, and everything hinges on where the outstanding ballots are.  This race, if indeed Beutler wins her way to November, becomes a case study of the tight maneuvering of Machiavelli electioneering, as she wins by way of this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Ahead of the primary, a mysterious outside group called Conservatives for a Stronger America\u00a0spent\u00a0$932,000\u00a0supporting St. John\u00a0and $521,000 opposing Kent, prompting Kemp\u00a0to claim the group wanted to help\u00a0St. John split the Trump base to help Herrera Beutler. That may in fact be happening.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Had St John been getting the bulk of this vote, &#8220;Conservatives for a Stronger America&#8221; would&#8217;ve been supporting Kent and running negative ads against St John.  As it is, the vote tallies:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beutler 22.62%.   Joe Kent 22.48%.
