{"id":4078,"date":"2009-06-04T13:33:30","date_gmt":"2009-06-04T20:33:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/?p=4078"},"modified":"2009-06-05T11:59:01","modified_gmt":"2009-06-05T18:59:01","slug":"disturbing-signs-against-free-speech","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2009\/06\/04\/disturbing-signs-against-free-speech\/","title":{"rendered":"disturbing signs against free speech"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I notice a pretty disturbing trend amongst Liberals, the latest example seen in a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/search?hl=en&amp;q=www.portlandmercury.com%2Fnews&amp;btnG=Search&amp;aq=f&amp;oq=&amp;aqi=\">Matt Davis Portland Mercury piece about a conservative<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0conference.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s an ease with which\u00c2\u00a0the semi-innocuous\u00c2\u00a0is conflated with the disturbed. \u00c2\u00a0 The effect reminds me of\u00c2\u00a0the post 9\/11 Ari Fleisher statement after a Bill Maher statement, <em>&#8220;There are reminders to all Americans that they need to watch what they say, watch what they do, and this is not a time for remarks like that; there never is.&#8221; <\/em><\/p>\n<p>For most of it, everything is fine with this article.\u00c2\u00a0 We note Lars Larson&#8217;s feeling of White Victimhood in the wake of\u00c2\u00a0 Sonia Sotomayor&#8217;s nomination.\u00c2\u00a0 Grover Norquist&#8217;s concerns of the regulatory state are noted.\u00c2\u00a0 The backers of the tea-parties are called &#8220;infamous&#8221; as opposed to what I&#8217;d figure &#8212; &#8220;silly&#8221; &#8212; Reagan is worshipped, Al Gore is denounced; global warming is denied.\u00c2\u00a0 The teenage activist is carted out as a sign of the future.<\/p>\n<p>And then the last two paragraphs.<\/p>\n<p><em>Three days later, on June 1, Lindsey Roeder, the wife of a man suspected of fatally shooting an abortion doctor in Kansas over the weekend, told the Associated Press that his family life began unraveling when he got involved with anti-government groups.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;The anti-tax stuff came first,&#8221; she reportedly said. &#8220;And then it grew and grew.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Huh.\u00c2\u00a0 This point\u00c2\u00a0is left dangling there, and Matt Davis is left making the point more explicit on KPOJ this morning.\u00c2\u00a0 Yes:\u00c2\u00a0off of the margins of this rhetoric, and coming out of the quarter billion population of America,\u00c2\u00a0we&#8217;ll get built\u00c2\u00a0your Tiller murderer.<\/p>\n<p>But the chances that someone from this conservative flab is going to shoot someone in the coming years\u00c2\u00a0is&#8230;
