{"id":4067,"date":"2009-06-02T18:25:52","date_gmt":"2009-06-03T01:25:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/?p=4067"},"modified":"2009-06-02T18:25:52","modified_gmt":"2009-06-03T01:25:52","slug":"wichita-kansas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2009\/06\/02\/wichita-kansas\/","title":{"rendered":"Wichita, Kansas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8216;Twas a matter of only a week or two ago when we were entreated with new polling data that Americans considered themselves &#8220;Pro-Life&#8221; moreso than &#8220;Pro-Choice&#8221;.\u00c2\u00a0 This is\u00c2\u00a0one of those matters that has so much static noise in it that there is not too much to say about it.<\/p>\n<p>So George Tiller is Assassinated.\u00c2\u00a0 And the nation affirms itself as, indeed, Pro-Life.\u00c2\u00a0 We&#8217;re all against that Murder.\u00c2\u00a0 Except, I suppose, we&#8217;re really only a mouse-quick away from finding people who aren&#8217;t.\u00c2\u00a0 And we&#8217;re only a Randal Terry press conference from finding people who aren&#8217;t particularly, (the &#8220;aren&#8217;t&#8221; is qualified with the &#8220;particularly&#8221;).<\/p>\n<p>Go back further, a couple summers ago.\u00c2\u00a0 The movie Juno inspires some anti-abortion activists, evangelical Jim Wallis, to pull for the &#8220;Juno Option&#8221;, based on the scenario in the good not great movie.\u00c2\u00a0 Part of the &#8220;Common Cause &#8221; we all kind of sort of agree with, unless we don&#8217;t, and which the shooter quite clearly doesn&#8217;t.\u00c2\u00a0 It is cited as a reason to back off Bristol Palin&#8217;s pregnancy won&#8217;t detract, and probably help, with Evangelical voters to the McCain \/ Palin ticket &#8212; Choose Life, and what, are you rooting for her to grab an Abortion?<\/p>\n<p>Come November of 2008, the good people of Arkansas <a href=\"http:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/wiki\/index.php\/Arkansas_Unmarried_Couple_Adoption_Ban_(2008)\">voted to ban the\u00c2\u00a0unmarried from adopting<\/a>, by way of making sure homosexuals don&#8217;t adopt.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s worth noting that this was a vote against the, quote-in-quote&#8221;Juno Option&#8221;, wherein the pregnant teenager ends with giving her child up to the now divorced woman (always wanted a child, as against the man who had a mid-life crisis and didn&#8217;t much want to go in for parenting).\u00c2\u00a0 And so the complications of real life scenario for a movie,\u00c2\u00a0slide right past the good intentions of your <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jim_Wallis\">Jim Wallises<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0&#8212; who, granted, would not take part in supporting such a measure, and would settle for making sure the Democratic Party Platform plank on Abortion stresses the viability of Adopting and what a shame it is Abortion.<\/p>\n<p>I have long grown weary of <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.tnr.com\/tnr\/blogs\/linker\/archive\/2009\/05\/31\/a-question-for-pro-lifers.aspx\">this semi-rhetorical question<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0to assess logic &#8212; a question which I&#8217;ve seen posed in ways unlike &#8220;Damon Linker&#8221; in a way that suggests a certain\u00c2\u00a0level of respect for the extremists as against the wussy &#8220;pro-life&#8221; encampment who &#8220;apparently don&#8217;t have the courage of their convciction&#8221;.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;ve never been quite sure where this rhetorical question is supposed to lead &#8212; to settle internal inconsistencies one way or the other, and am slightly chagrined that the NR blog post gets favorable links while this <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/id\/2219537\/\">Will Saletin slate article is deplored a tad<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0&#8212; though lays as bare as that other one the &#8220;Don&#8217;t quite mean it&#8221; for\u00c2\u00a0the\u00c2\u00a0boldness of\u00c2\u00a0&#8220;is murder&#8221;, or if so, um, &#8220;<em>War is not the Answer<\/em>&#8220;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8216;Twas a matter of only a week or two ago when we were entreated with new polling data that Americans considered themselves &#8220;Pro-Life&#8221; moreso than &#8220;Pro-Choice&#8221;.\u00c2\u00a0 This is\u00c2\u00a0one of those matters that has so much static noise in it that there is not too much to say about it.
