{"id":3434,"date":"2009-02-26T09:18:51","date_gmt":"2009-02-26T16:18:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/?p=3434"},"modified":"2009-02-26T09:40:17","modified_gmt":"2009-02-26T16:40:17","slug":"a-night-in-the-life-of-a-typical-comment-section-for-a-post-on-a-major-liberal-blog","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2009\/02\/26\/a-night-in-the-life-of-a-typical-comment-section-for-a-post-on-a-major-liberal-blog\/","title":{"rendered":"a night in the life of a typical comment section for a post on a major liberal blog"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Alright.\u00c2\u00a0 A proper analysis of the Stock Market yesterday, gotten from a message board I frequent, was &#8220;The Market seems to have reacted to the Obama speech by going sideways&#8221; &#8212; which is to say at any given time yesterday, the Dow was up or down.<\/p>\n<p>Hence, Drudge was <a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2009\/02\/25\/drudge-dow-obama\/\">playing games yesterday<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 The one thing you can say is that it&#8217;s a bit more comfortable than seeing a stock market up-tik, and the up-tik being credited to Ben Bernake commenting that he believes the Recession will be over by the end of the year&#8230; which, if that&#8217;s what it takes to get the Dow Up and if the Dow is the end all be all (really, it&#8217;s\u00c2\u00a0import to the Front of the Line\u00c2\u00a0of Economic Coverage\u00c2\u00a0comes from it&#8217;s numbers flucuating and thus having hard numbers to follow all day, hence Drudge&#8217;s headline), Bernanke could just say every day &#8220;Yep!\u00c2\u00a0 Recession Over in 300 days!&#8221;, every day that same line &#8212; then we&#8217;ll be right back on track to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Dow-36-000-Strategy-Profiting\/dp\/0609806998\/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&amp;s=books&amp;qid=1235663559&amp;sr=8-7\">Dow 36,000<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 (Or, good lord, Customers who bought that book also bought <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Dow-40-000-Strategies-Profiting\/dp\/0071351280\/ref=pd_sim_b_1\">Dow 40,000<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Dow-100-000-Fact-Fiction\/dp\/0735201374\/ref=pd_sim_b_2\">Dow 100,000<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 I\u00c2\u00a0made a mint off of my quickie book <em>Dow 900,000,000,000,000<\/em>.)<\/p>\n<p>But, it&#8217;s interesting to note the luminaries who post to thinkprogress.\u00c2\u00a0 Check this out, it&#8217;s an effect that you&#8217;ll see just about everywhere:<\/p>\n<p>Comment #4 is <em>raynman <\/em>Comment #5 is <em>fletc3her.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/em>Names picked why, who knows &#8212; Commenter #4 may be a Dustin Hoffman fan, Commenter #5 must be a fan of the old Popeye and Superman animated cartoons, and of the number 3.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Okay.\u00c2\u00a0 Now we get to the part that is always a little bit fascinating.\u00c2\u00a0 The Big Names.\u00c2\u00a0 This Think Progress post was read and commented on by <em>John Kerry<\/em>, <em>Henry Wallace, Ape-Man, <\/em>and<em> Eugene Debs<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 John Kerry is a conservative &#8212; I guess using the nom-de-plome of an unsuccessful presidential candidate? &#8212; who sends a shrill siren against the Liberals, which inspires commenters to come out as the former vice president and later Communist Dupe of a Third Party presidential\u00c2\u00a0candidate Henry Wallace and the Socialist Agitator and Pacifist Political Prisoner Eugene Debs.\u00c2\u00a0 (And, um, Ape-Man, who needs no introduction.)\u00c2\u00a0 I am not entirely sure the depths of this political commentary &#8212; are Henry Wallace and Eugene Debs seeking to expand John Kerry&#8217;s historical purview, or perhaps John Kerry&#8217;s more limited ideological spectrum?<\/p>\n<p>Later on we have the slogan names &#8220;IgnoranceIsNotBliss&#8221; and the always present partisan anony-names &#8220;RepublicansHateFacts&#8221;.\u00c2\u00a0 About the only interesting name after the\u00c2\u00a0Kerry&#8211;Wallace&#8211;Debs trio\u00c2\u00a0is the &#8220;Dogfather&#8221;.\u00c2\u00a0 Get\u00c2\u00a0it?\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s Godfather but with the God reversed to Dog?\u00c2\u00a0 I don&#8217;t regard &#8220;Barack Obomber&#8221; as interesting, though I will suggest that the name could very easily be picked up &#8220;from the left&#8221;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Alright.\u00c2\u00a0 A proper analysis of the Stock Market yesterday, gotten from a message board I frequent, was &#8220;The Market seems to have reacted to the Obama speech by going sideways&#8221; &#8212; which is to say at any given time yesterday, the Dow was up or down.
