{"id":3327,"date":"2009-01-24T10:05:08","date_gmt":"2009-01-24T17:05:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2009\/01\/24\/nothing-like-a-good-gay-sex-scandal-eh\/"},"modified":"2009-01-24T10:05:08","modified_gmt":"2009-01-24T17:05:08","slug":"nothing-like-a-good-gay-sex-scandal-eh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2009\/01\/24\/nothing-like-a-good-gay-sex-scandal-eh\/","title":{"rendered":"Nothing like a good gay sex scandal, eh?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Tuesday, the station that airs local conservative bloviator Lars Larson spliced together the commercial where Larson spewed forth something along the lines of (I don&#8217;t listen to Lars Larson because, you know: dull and tedious.\u00c2\u00a0 I do listen\/hear parts of Michael Savage because, I don&#8217;t know&#8230; amusing despite myself.\u00c2\u00a0 That is where I heard the commercial):<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Portland Mayor Sam Adams says he is the First Queer Mayor of a Major American City.\u00c2\u00a0 He has now admitted to having lied about having had sex with an\u00c2\u00a018 year old former intern (<em>of state legislature<\/em>).\u00c2\u00a0 If he lied about that, what else has he lied about?\u00c2\u00a0 Sam Adams must resign.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Now, hearing that,\u00c2\u00a0I had to do a weird back-track.\u00c2\u00a0 I assume Larson was referencing the possibility that Adams had lied about age, or some other item in the news story (though I doubt that).\u00c2\u00a0 But the problem is, in this clip, Larson mentions two items of which Adams has claimed: that he is the &#8220;First Queer Mayor of a Major US City&#8221;, and that Adams has now admitted to having had sex with Breedlove.\u00c2\u00a0 The problem:\u00c2\u00a0 <em>I don&#8217;t believe\u00c2\u00a0Adams&#8217;s claim of being gay is in dispute by anyone<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 But somehow Larson has to snip that into the conversation, and it comes across as rather stuffed.<\/p>\n<p>City\u00c2\u00a0Hall\u00c2\u00a0has, for the past week, been surrounded by the Media.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s a strange sight, and one I don&#8217;t envy for anyone working in it.\u00c2\u00a0 Protesters are waving signs, denouncing and supporting Adams &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.oregonlive.com\/portland_impact\/2009\/01\/large_ph.samhomeX.jpg\">an inevitable sign<\/a>, which I think could have made more clever by someone more talented.\u00c2\u00a0 Adams is reportedly holed up at his house, deliberating away &#8212; I imagine his fence is far enough from anywhere to keep the Media Malestorm away.<\/p>\n<p>For the record, Prezhilton.com, and I say this by dent of looking through google photographs and seeing a photo of Adams with the word &#8220;Boo!&#8221; written over it, opposes Adams.\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/wonkette.com\/405677\/openly-gay-mayor-once-had-sex-with-adult-male\">And wonkette.com supports Adams in his hour of <\/a>shun, as you see from their posting a picture of a shirtless 18 year old (Note that wonkette changes the headline of various papers from &#8220;Sex with Teen&#8221; to &#8220;Sex with Adult&#8221;).\u00c2\u00a0 Because prezhilton.com and wonkette.com matter in this.\u00c2\u00a0 (Of course, reading down the comments for things like this, I have that question, &#8220;If\u00c2\u00a0a politician\u00c2\u00a0can&#8217;t lie about sex, what can\u00c2\u00a0s\/he lie about?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I suspect that\u00c2\u00a0the greatest\u00c2\u00a0cleavage of difference of opinions (for Portlanders, which is in the end the only people whose opinions matter here) comes from one of the great dividing lines of political and sociological attitudes in America &#8212;
