{"id":3236,"date":"2008-12-09T09:06:20","date_gmt":"2008-12-09T16:06:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2008\/12\/09\/tim-riley-axed\/"},"modified":"2008-12-09T09:06:20","modified_gmt":"2008-12-09T16:06:20","slug":"tim-riley-axed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2008\/12\/09\/tim-riley-axed\/","title":{"rendered":"Tim Riley Axed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I am not a firm believer in the &#8220;Rick Emerson Brand&#8221;.\u00c2\u00a0 I am a firm believer in the &#8220;Tim Riley brand&#8221;, and as such sense that my listenership to &#8220;The Rick Emerson Show&#8221; is going to wane a great deal &#8212; whatever my &#8220;P&#8221; rating falling from &#8220;P-1&#8221; to &#8220;P-2&#8221; &#8212; or is it &#8220;P-2&#8221; to &#8220;P-3&#8221;?<\/p>\n<p>This, of course, is a shame.\u00c2\u00a0 Emerson and Sarah Dylan\u00c2\u00a0are solid professional producing and hosting a radio program in the right way.\u00c2\u00a0 But the effect is similar to that era of the Rick Emerson Show where the program was clearly being stomped under the jack-booted consultants of Entercom and the nightmare of fitting into something called a &#8220;Max 910&#8221;.\u00c2\u00a0 I sort of felt lousy fading away and\u00c2\u00a0turning the dial &#8212; this was not Emerson&#8217;s fault and he certainly\u00c2\u00a0carried on the\u00c2\u00a0best he could under those horrendous circumstances&#8211; but I had no other choice.\u00c2\u00a0 It was with that that I always had a mixed reaction to the destruction of &#8220;Max 910&#8221; &#8212; on one hand Emerson, and Clyde Lewis for that matter &#8212; were off the air; on the other hand, this goddamned exercise in hyper dilineated market segmentation and insulting of everyone&#8217;s intelligence\u00c2\u00a0was dead.<\/p>\n<p>So what do you do when the chief ingredient that made a radio program entertaining is taken out?\u00c2\u00a0 The figure whose looming presence made some diversions from Rick Emerson and Sarah Dylan relatively listen-worthy?\u00c2\u00a0 Inevitably my Core is just going to break down into Cum&#8230;ulative.\u00c2\u00a0 This time around I can&#8217;t even really lay waste to the Corporate Behemoth &#8212; CBS is not Entercom.\u00c2\u00a0 Oh well.\u00c2\u00a0 The one thing I can say about &#8220;The Rick Emerson Show&#8221; as it goes forward: it&#8217;s not like there&#8217;s anything better on the radio dial.<\/p>\n<p>I was walking down the street one day, when a guy approaching me yelled out &#8220;What are your choices for bread?&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 Confused and puzzled was I.\u00c2\u00a0 Then I looked down and saw I had a Viso bottle on me, and groaned silently to myself.\u00c2\u00a0 Once I safely passed, I provided the answer.\u00c2\u00a0 &#8220;White.\u00c2\u00a0 Wheat.\u00c2\u00a0 Sour dough.\u00c2\u00a0 English muffin.\u00c2\u00a0 Bagel.&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 Does this make a radio listener community?\u00c2\u00a0 Who can say?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am not a firm believer in the &#8220;Rick Emerson Brand&#8221;.\u00c2\u00a0 I am a firm believer in the &#8220;Tim Riley brand&#8221;, and as such sense that my listenership to &#8220;The Rick Emerson Show&#8221; is going to wane a great deal &#8212; whatever my &#8220;P&#8221; rating falling from &#8220;P-1&#8221; to &#8220;P-2&#8221; &#8212; or is it &#8220;P-2&#8221; [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-3236","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3236","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=3236"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3236\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=3236"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=3236"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=3236"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
