{"id":3159,"date":"2008-10-31T13:27:42","date_gmt":"2008-10-31T20:27:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2008\/10\/31\/a-positive-poll-for-george-fearing-against-doc-hastings\/"},"modified":"2008-10-31T13:27:42","modified_gmt":"2008-10-31T20:27:42","slug":"a-positive-poll-for-george-fearing-against-doc-hastings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2008\/10\/31\/a-positive-poll-for-george-fearing-against-doc-hastings\/","title":{"rendered":"A positive poll for George Fearing against Doc Hastings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m mildly obligated to point to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mccranium.org\/2008\/10\/31\/washingtons-4th-cd-in-play\/\">this<\/a>, and you can follow the various links there to further explosions of excitement.\u00c2\u00a0 It popped up in my &#8220;incoming links inbox&#8221;, which I think means <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mccranium.org\/\">Jimmy<\/a> was wavering on linking to something on this blog before deciding I had nothing to link.\u00c2\u00a0 After all, the last time I mentioned Doc Hastings, I was posting about Gordon Allen Pross,\u00c2\u00a0which is a\u00c2\u00a0clear demonstration of\u00c2\u00a0my misguided\u00c2\u00a0priorities.\u00c2\u00a0 But maybe he was looking for this:<\/p>\n<p>1994: JAY INSLEE, ousted. 51%, 48%.<br \/>\n1996:\u00c2\u00a0Rick Locke\u00c2\u00a0lost 52% to 48%.<br \/>\n1998: Gordon Allen Pross: 25%<br \/>\n2000: Jim Davis, 37%<br \/>\n2002: Craig Mason, 33%.<br \/>\n2004: Sandy Matheson 37%.<br \/>\n2006:\u00c2\u00a0 Richard Wright:\u00c2\u00a0 40%<\/p>\n<p>So, the would be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2006\/11\/14\/speaker-of-the-house-doc-hastings\/\">Speaker-of-the-House<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0(heh heh heh), Richard Doc Hastings, is up by a jarringly small margin over George Fearing in an internal poll.\u00c2\u00a0 I recall in 2004, and maybe\u00c2\u00a0even last time in 2006, the Democratic candidate releasing an internal poll really early on suggesting something of a race,\u00c2\u00a0but the poll was laughable and\u00c2\u00a0incredibly leading in its questioning &#8212; too much mischief designed to get some donations.\u00c2\u00a0 This doesn&#8217;t have that motivation, and is at least on the surface pretty straight forward &#8212; even if the margin of error suggests anything between Fearing winning by one and Doc Hastings winning by eleven.<\/p>\n<p>So, here in 2008.\u00c2\u00a0 Who will win?\u00c2\u00a0 Doc Hastings.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0<em>What &#8212; am I crazy?\u00c2\u00a0 You saw the past\u00c2\u00a0election results.<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0The only caveat is that\u00c2\u00a0in a &#8220;wave election&#8221; someone will win a seat nobody expected in their right mind could be won &#8212; as with 2006 and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Carol_Shea-Porter\">her<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nancy_Boyda\">her<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/David_Loebsack\">him<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 Somewhere on the map in this nation &#8212;
