Gordon Smith is now running ads attacking his opponent.\u00c2\u00a0 His opponent being Constituion Party candidate Dave Brownlow.\u00c2\u00a0 Not so much Democratic Party candidate Jeff Merkley anymore, it would seem.<\/p>\n
Apparently Dave Brownlow is too\u00c2\u00a0dangerous to be entrusted\u00c2\u00a0to the US Senate.\u00c2\u00a0 If true, we can breathe a sigh of relief\u00c2\u00a0knowing full well that\u00c2\u00a0Dave Brownlow is not going to get anywhere close to the US Senate –\u00c2\u00a0as befitting a\u00c2\u00a0member of the “Constitution Party”, he will get single digit returns.<\/p>\n
Apparently Dave Brownlow is too liberal.\u00c2\u00a0 But really, he’s\u00c2\u00a0so conservative that he sling-shots back to liberal (to the left of Merkley) on a number of issues, particularly on the surface level\u00c2\u00a0— but Smith has to beware his right-plank who\u00c2\u00a0are apt to\u00c2\u00a0throw protest votes Brownlow’s way.\u00c2\u00a0 Brownlow’s response to the charge of being given that “liberal” label is to point out the campaign Smith has been running — where he has attached himself to Obama, Wyden, Ted Kennedy, and whatshername — that former\u00c2\u00a0Democratic state representative strong on gay issues.<\/p>\n
The strategy is bizarre.\u00c2\u00a0 Shouldn’t Smith be attacking Jeff Merkley?\u00c2\u00a0 There are more votes\u00c2\u00a0to be gotten from people stuck in that old habit of choosing between a Republican and a Democrat and not much looking at those\u00c2\u00a0negligibly funded third party candidates.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Maybe\u00c2\u00a0there’s still time to find footage of Merkley eating a burrito?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
