{"id":3096,"date":"2008-09-23T08:39:10","date_gmt":"2008-09-23T15:39:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2008\/09\/23\/nineteen-percent-and-zero-percent\/"},"modified":"2008-09-23T08:41:54","modified_gmt":"2008-09-23T15:41:54","slug":"nineteen-percent-and-zero-percent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2008\/09\/23\/nineteen-percent-and-zero-percent\/","title":{"rendered":"nineteen percent and zero percent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>A <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/americanresearchgroup.com\/economy\/\"><em>new poll<\/em><\/a><em> from American Research Group shows that zero percent of Americans believe the economy is improving.\u00c2\u00a0 <\/em><em>The poll also measured President Bush&#8217;s approval rating at 19 percent.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Hm.\u00c2\u00a0 Over the weekend, an editorial was published from one of those Victor Hanson Davis or Max Boot\u00c2\u00a0orCharles Krauthammer or\u00c2\u00a0one of those Intelligent Idiots, some looming in the advisor ranks of a McCain presidency, stating that age old premise en vouge since Bush&#8217;s presidency skidded firmly out of public favor &#8212; &#8220;History will vindicate Bush.\u00c2\u00a0 Look, over there!\u00c2\u00a0 TRUMAN!!&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Still, <a href=\"http:\/\/americanresearchgroup.com\/economy\/\">looking down the ranks of these economic confidence\u00c2\u00a0indicators<\/a>, it is worth noting that the &#8220;Zero&#8221; percentage is only marginally worse than the previous low, February&#8217;s 1 percent and July&#8217;s 3 percent, which shows we are right on the cusp of a rebound.\u00c2\u00a0 These things are cyclical, and the problem may have been that inflated sense of confidence before the bubble burst, last month\u00c2\u00a0when nearly one out of five people had confidence America&#8217;s economy was going anywhere.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Bush is no Truman.\u00c2\u00a0 He is not Hoover, either, because I tend to think Hoover\u00c2\u00a0may just have been\u00c2\u00a0the Right Man for the Job &#8212; if it were 1920.\u00c2\u00a0 I don&#8217;t think Bush was the Right Man for the Job at any point in our history, and any conceivable moment in the future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new poll from American Research Group shows that zero percent of Americans believe the economy is improving.\u00c2\u00a0 The poll also measured President Bush&#8217;s approval rating at 19 percent.
