{"id":2990,"date":"2008-07-07T10:52:04","date_gmt":"2008-07-07T17:52:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2008\/07\/07\/flag-pins-feh\/"},"modified":"2008-07-07T10:52:04","modified_gmt":"2008-07-07T17:52:04","slug":"flag-pins-feh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2008\/07\/07\/flag-pins-feh\/","title":{"rendered":"Flag Pins (feh)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Flag Pin.\u00c2\u00a0 Dot dot dot.\u00c2\u00a0 Flag Pin politics.<\/p>\n<p>Just shoot me if I make this topic a habit, okay?<\/p>\n<p>So I see Dearest Charles Krauthammer tredge past it in a list of Cynical Obama&#8230; what&#8217;s that common vernacular used today?&#8230; <em>Political and Positioning Readjustments<\/em> &#8230; And I am hit by the inanity of part of our political dialouge.<\/p>\n<p>Long story short: Obama is now wearing flag pins.\u00c2\u00a0 After a period of time where he did not wear them.\u00c2\u00a0 He started wearing flag pins again after being pestered on the topic.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0And mind you he started doing so in the primary season when, theoretically, he still had to court those quote-in-quote &#8220;moveon.com (or is it org?)\u00c2\u00a0crowd&#8221; of a-patriotic symbol smashing snubs.<\/p>\n<p>There are a few ways of considering Obama&#8217;s flag pin arch.\u00c2\u00a0 One is that the passion which had aligned blustery nationalism and a blurry loyalty test in 65 to 80 plus Bush America has died down such that the flag&#8217;s meaning differs in 2008 from its meaning in 2002 &#8211; 2003.\u00c2\u00a0 Another is the &#8220;if it means that much to you&#8221; item which is akin to the deference of wearing a tie to one&#8217;s job interview &#8212; a pander of a type made by everyday citizens in everyday situations.\u00c2\u00a0 And the other item is the &#8220;Who gives a flying rip?&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Flag Pin.\u00c2\u00a0 Dot dot dot.\u00c2\u00a0 Flag Pin politics.
