And that&#8217;s why we must not pass the financial reform bill that&#8217;s about to hit the floor.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Luntz: &#8220;Taxpayers should not be held responsible for the <strong>failure of big business<\/strong> any longer.\u00c2\u00a0 <strong>If a business is going to fail, not matter how big, let it fail.<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>McConnell: &#8220;[The Dodd bill] gives the government a new backdoor mechanism for propping up <strong>failing or failed institutions<\/strong>&#8230;. We won&#8217;t solve this problem until <strong>the biggest banks are allowed to fail.<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Luntz: &#8220;Government policies <strong>caused the bubble<\/strong> and its ultimate crash. <strong>Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, the Federal Reserve<\/strong>, and the Community Reinvestment Act all had a role in the catastrophe. The government inflated economic <strong>bubbles<\/strong> with easy credit policies.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>McConnell: \u00e2\u20ac\u0153It also directs <strong>the Fed<\/strong> to oversee 35 to 50 of the biggest firms, replicating on an even larger scale the same distortions that plagued the housing market and <strong>helped trigger a massive bubble<\/strong> we&#8217;ll be suffering from for years. If you thought <strong>Fannie and Freddie<\/strong> <strong>were dangerous<\/strong>, how about 35 to 50 of them?&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;..<\/p>\n<p>There is a bit more to this.\u00c2\u00a0 The other component is one of acruing that Obama <a href=\"http:\/\/corner.nationalreview.com\/post\/?q=YmI5Yjk5NTllY2Q2MjY0NWY4YTA3NmE0M2FlYWJhYTg=\">shut out Republicans in the process<\/a>, leading to the necessary 41 block Republican opposition &#8230; which, of course, in the New Age &#8212;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/filibustercharthistory.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5902\" title=\"filibustercharthistory\" src=\"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/filibustercharthistory.png\" alt=\"filibustercharthistory\" width=\"480\" height=\"380\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/filibustercharthistory.png 480w, http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/04\/filibustercharthistory-300x237.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00c2\u00a0though, naturally any compromises with Republican Senators has the effect of bringing it closer to McConnell \/ Luntz&#8217;s claims.\u00c2\u00a0 The Populist Campaign for 2010 is one to make out the Democratic Party as the &#8220;Party of Big Business&#8221; &#8212; somewhat appropriate enough in that to shade off that is to fall out of the constructed &#8220;Center&#8221; as amorphous figures have defined it over the years.<\/p>\n<p>But <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bTVPtW8dr_c\">seriously<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Actually it&#8217;s a surprise the bill has come out actually&#8230; with&#8230; relevant\u00c2\u00a0regulations&#8230; which actually\u00c2\u00a0strike against the Republican Party opposition line.\u00c2\u00a0 But then again, Blanche Lincoln\u00c2\u00a0faces a primary challenge.\u00c2\u00a0 It is a bit weird &#8212; in some ways this is a Defining Moment.\u00c2\u00a0 Consult again my (since mentally revised slightly) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2009\/12\/28\/wherein-i-rank-the-presidents-into-four-categories\/\">Presidential Rating System<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 Why, getting this done would be like Chester Arthur getting through the then desperately needed Civil Service Reform&#8211; in the end, this is the Major Issue of the Moment, and the one that more than other\u00c2\u00a0sealed Obama into the Presidency.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of Goldman Sachs and what the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Goldman_Sachs#SEC_Fraud_Lawsuit.2C_April_2010\">SEC&#8217;s prosecution of a relatively narrow charge means <\/a>&#8212; you tell me.\u00c2\u00a0 Ever get the feeling some things are more symbolic than substantive?<\/p>\n<p>Politically, it had long been believed that to come out full force against a process of Regulatory Reform would be a type of political suicide for a Republican Party &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.examiner.com\/x-12720-DC-Policy-Reform-Examiner~y2010m4d18-Senates-financial-reform-bill-has-enough-votes-to-pass-says-Geithner\">believed even now, kind of<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 This is a bit of bumpkis &#8211;\u00c2\u00a0sometimes elections have a certain post-modern quality to them &#8212; nothing much matters except the Rage.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>And with this McConnell rallies the 41 Republicans to filibuster Wall Street Reform. &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.
