{"id":2039,"date":"2007-01-27T12:26:50","date_gmt":"2007-01-27T19:26:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2007\/01\/27\/health-care\/"},"modified":"2007-01-27T12:26:50","modified_gmt":"2007-01-27T19:26:50","slug":"health-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2007\/01\/27\/health-care\/","title":{"rendered":"Health Care"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In declaring that every American should have Health Care by the end of the next Presidential administration, thus far light on specifics,\u00c2\u00a0Barack Obama has, once again, converged paths with John Edwards &#8212; who made the statement that the next president (or Democratic presidential candidate, I don&#8217;t remember) will need to take the issue of Health Care full bore, full coverage, no nibbling around the edges, no incrementalist talk along the lines of what the gun-shy Democratic Party states and restates on the issue, particularly since Hillary Clinton&#8217;s efforts in 1993 and 1994.<\/p>\n<p>I wonder something about Barack Obama&#8217;s statements, though.\u00c2\u00a0 He is a Senator.\u00c2\u00a0 He is a Senator with a large national following who carries a great deal of influence.\u00c2\u00a0 He is also in the Majority party.\u00c2\u00a0 Could he, maybe, flesh out his pronouncements on health care and formulate his ideas into a cohesive unit, called a Bill, and then pursue that bill on to what I guess would be, at best, President Bush&#8217;s veto pen?<\/p>\n<p>Hillary Clinton, for her part, is pursuing a &#8220;listening tour&#8221;, and wants to gather your, and by your I mean <i>your<\/i>, ideas of what might work to improve our health care.\u00c2\u00a0 She, of course, is retiscent to move beyond that and suggest anything too massive &#8212; lest the ghost of 1993 &#8211; 1994 come back to bite her &#8212; and she also has an interest in replicating the much &#8211; mocked but ultimately politically successful &#8220;listing tour&#8221; aspect of her first Senate campaign.\u00c2\u00a0 I wounder if she might want to co-sponsor Senator Obama&#8217;s Health Care bill.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In declaring that every American should have Health Care by the end of the next Presidential administration, thus far light on specifics,\u00c2\u00a0Barack Obama has, once again, converged paths with John Edwards &#8212; who made the statement that the next president (or Democratic presidential candidate, I don&#8217;t remember) will need to take the issue of Health [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2039","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2039","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=2039"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/2039\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=2039"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=2039"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=2039"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
