{"id":17954,"date":"2019-02-16T15:17:33","date_gmt":"2019-02-16T22:17:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/?p=17954"},"modified":"2019-02-16T15:24:23","modified_gmt":"2019-02-16T22:24:23","slug":"someone-figure-the-state-of-the-cult-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2019\/02\/16\/someone-figure-the-state-of-the-cult-now\/","title":{"rendered":"someone figure the &#8220;state of the cult&#8221; now?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dividing the headlines for the obits for lyndon larouche into various categories.\u00c2\u00a0 I do like the attempts &#8212; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattlepi.com\/local\/politics\/article\/Memories-of-the-LaRouche-cult-Queen-Elizabeth-13617510.php\">&#8216;Queen Elizabeth is a drug pusher&#8217; conspiracy theorist dies at 96<\/a> &#8212; as though we need to figure out what, who, what you may have known him as, vaguely.<\/p>\n<p>For the most part it&#8217;s &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wnd.com\/2019\/02\/political-cult-leader-lyndon-larouche-dies-at-96\/\">Political Cult Leader<\/a>&#8221; (thank you right wing world net daily), or &#8220;8 Time Presidential Candidate&#8221;&#8230; &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercurynews.com\/2019\/02\/14\/lyndon-larouche-jr-conspiracy-theorist-and-presidential-candidate-dies-at-96\/\">Conspiracy Theorist<\/a>&#8221; and Presidential Candidate&#8230; &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2019-02-13\/lyndon-larouche-conspiracy-theorist-who-led-cult-dies-at-96\">Who led cult<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>Tagging to specifics &#8212; harmfulness &#8212; &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hivplusmag.com\/news\/2019\/2\/14\/lyndon-larouche-politician-who-sought-hiv-quarantine-dead-96\">Politicians who sought HIV Quarantine<\/a>&#8220;.\u00c2\u00a0 And the local angle &#8212; &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unionleader.com\/news\/politics\/rochester-s-lyndon-larouche---perennial-presidential-candidate-and\/article_10b063b6-f567-5963-a80b-329ee0fc836f.html\">Rochester&#8217;s own<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/capitolfax.com\/2019\/02\/14\/remembering-the-larouchies\/\">A few years later I encountered Fairchild<\/a> pushing the LaRouche stuff (and if I recall correctly, feeding a student\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s seeing-eye dog some of his lunch which is a no no). When he said his name, I said \u00e2\u20ac\u0153hey you are that guy who ran for Lt Governor\u00e2\u20ac\u009d he didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t seem to want to talk about it.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> A few years later we encountered LaRouche followers in Germany, surprised me quite a bit.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/blog\/2019\/02\/15\/larouche\">AND<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0 I <em>think all his life he was laughing up his sleeve at his cult. I don&#8217;t think Lyndon Adolf H. Stassen Marcus-LaRouche believed half the things he said.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> At least by 20 yrs. ago people had finally stopped confusing libertarians w LaRouche. That longstanding confusion was as vexing to him as to us.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Back then I showed their lit to a friend. He thought it was hilarious &amp; joined them for the lulz. Little by little, they won him over, but after a few mos. he was outed as a Rockefeller spy. He described his being purged as a very scary scene of them surrounding him &amp; saying, &#8220;Hah!&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I was talking with a LaRouchite at a table in a public square during the 1980s and he axed me where I was from.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> I told him my hometown and he looked at me wide-eyed and he axed me if I knew that the founder of NAMBLA was from my bumfuck town and then pulled out pamphlets on it and, years later, I found out that the info was accurate!<\/em><br \/>\n<em> I &#8216;m one of the few who know of it in the town where I grew up.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/blog-briefing-room\/news\/429903-former-presidential-candidate-lyndon-larouche-dies?mode=comments#disqus_thread\">Hey da<\/a>. \u00c2\u00a0<em>Back in the day, I was intrigued by the anti-war, anti-Bush\/Cheney posters with which they decorated the table they routinely set up on Broadway, so I stopped one day to see what they were all about.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> That five minute conversation got me months of some of the kookiest mailers and emails I ever could have imagined. &#8220;Just think of how much better the world would be if orchestras didn&#8217;t tune to 440,&#8221; and the like.<\/em><br \/>\n<em> Those guys are f*cking crazy.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"nymag.com\/intelligencer\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cjs2gtzhn003g3g63hozuk0ek@published\" data-word-count=\"74\">&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.manilatimes.net\/are-they-more-catholic-in-venezuela\/511833\/\">Okay<\/a>.&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 <em>A tireless proponent of returning America to the policies of Alexander Hamilton and Franklin Delano Roosevelt, passed on February 12 at the age of 97. There are no details.\u00c2\u00a0<\/em> Still trying to get reactionary Catholics?<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"nymag.com\/intelligencer\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cjs2gtzhn003g3g63hozuk0ek@published\" data-word-count=\"74\">And moving aside the glib &#8220;slur political enemy&#8221; angle &#8212; Here&#8217;s the Competitive Enterprise Institute who notes <a href=\"https:\/\/cei.org\/blog\/ominous-parallels-were-aoc-and-larouche-secretly-working-together\">Larouche had a big goal for huge government, as does AOC &#8212; why, Larouche lives on!<\/a> &#8212; (Noted, the Larouche organization has declared her and her &#8220;green agenda&#8221; Malthusian anti-human etc.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"nymag.com\/intelligencer\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cjs2gtzhn003g3g63hozuk0ek@published\" data-word-count=\"74\">And semi-the same the claim &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/expo.oregonlive.com\/news\/g66l-2019\/02\/9af7cd384b5231\/lyndon-larouche-who-spread-fear-in-oregon-and-showed-where-us-politics-was-headed-dies.html\">showed where U.S. politics was headed<\/a>&#8221; &#8212; never mind I recall paranoia as being pretty extant during the Cold War, a dig at Trump &#8212; Or to the point, the hbo <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0eCP7jVU9kc\">video<\/a> puts him in the context of &#8220;Long running joke&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"nymag.com\/intelligencer\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cjs2gtzhn003g3g63hozuk0ek@published\" data-word-count=\"74\">and reference point to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/before-there-was-internet-paranoia-there-was-lyndon-larouche\/\"> the likes of Alex Jones\u00c2\u00a0<\/a> &#8220;Before there was Internet Paranoia&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0 &#8212; (notably in the current era of deplatforming has been hawking the old fashion virtues of radio to his listeners) &#8212;<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"nymag.com\/intelligencer\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cjs2gtzhn003g3g63hozuk0ek@published\" data-word-count=\"74\"><span class=\"vf-comment-html\"><span class=\"vf-comment-html-content\">Cute on the peculiarly local angle &#8220;Spread Fear in Oregon&#8221;) &#8211;\u00c2\u00a0<em> A white Rashneeshi in his own special way. Buh bye&#8230;<\/em> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"nymag.com\/intelligencer\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cjs2gtzhn003g3g63hozuk0ek@published\" data-word-count=\"74\">For my part, the &#8220;hits&#8221; that arrive at this little blog of mine&#8230; he disclaimed The Beatles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"nymag.com\/intelligencer\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cjs2gtzhn003g3g63hozuk0ek@published\" data-word-count=\"74\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=kIGJNr85lTI\">This hour, some random talkings, and it skips around to things of note and some things not of note, the interviewed struggling not to overstate what he knows<\/a>&#8230; skip about to 45 minutes and we get some of the &#8220;high lights&#8221;, and &#8212; &#8220;chimpanzee in the White House&#8221;, worth noting the black man skipped out on the cult in short order.<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"nymag.com\/intelligencer\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cjs2gtzhn003g3g63hozuk0ek@published\" data-word-count=\"74\">A<a href=\"https:\/\/www.insidehighered.com\/views\/2019\/02\/15\/essay-death-lyndon-larouche-and-future-his-movement\">s described by Scott McLemee in trying to explain how &#8220;cults die&#8221; or disintegrate &#8212; over to &#8220;Why We Left&#8221;<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>So, where does LaRouche&#8217;s mathematical output fit in? Has anyone in the field assessed it?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Har de har har.<\/p>\n<p>As any good demagogue&#8230; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jacobinmag.com\/2019\/02\/lyndon-larouche-death-lsc-conspiracy-theories\">The crises and anxieties of our age gave Lyndon LaRouche a lot of material to work with<\/a> &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The big change-over over the last few years, under the new leadership of Helga Zepp as Lyndon faded and stopped being plopped up back in 2016&#8230; <a href=\"http:\/\/nymag.com\/intelligencer\/2019\/02\/political-cult-leader-lyndon-larouche-dies-at-96.html#comments\">It&#8217;s no longer an American cult serving Russia<\/a>; now it&#8217;s a German one serving China&#8230; (McCarthyite of me, dunno.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"nymag.com\/intelligencer\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cjs2gtzhn003g3g63hozuk0ek@published\" data-word-count=\"74\"><em>Deceptive to the end, LaRouche passes from the scene having migrated from Marxism to quasi-fascism, and from fake Democratic to fake German allegiances. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s never been clear to what extent Lyndon LaRouche was a con man, or just a megalomaniac who drank too deeply of his own Kool-Aid. But he left a lot of damage in his wake. And in the end, the drug dealer Elizabeth II got the last laugh by outliving him.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"clay-paragraph\" data-editable=\"text\" data-uri=\"nymag.com\/intelligencer\/_components\/clay-paragraph\/instances\/cjs2gtzhn003g3g63hozuk0ek@published\" data-word-count=\"74\">Molly Kronberg<em>: Glad to see you included references to Ken Kronberg&#8217;s suicide and LaRouche&#8217;s attacks on his own (baby boomer) members. As Ken Kronberg&#8217;s widow, I appreciate any article on LaRouche that recognizes the tremendous damage he did to his own &#8220;membership,&#8221; and Ken would too. Not long before he died, Ken told me that LaRouche &#8220;was too mean to die&#8221;&#8211;but the past few days show that, however mean LaRouche was, he was no match for Death.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Swedish prime minster Olof Palme, who seemed likely to have been killed by incubated poisonous rhetoric.\u00c2\u00a0 Jeremiah Duggan could not escape a controlled environment.<\/p>\n<p>Matthew Sweet may have written the last book on the movement in anticipation for his death &#8212; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenleft.org.au\/content\/chaotic-concoction-vietnam-deserters-lyndon-larouche-and-cia\">as it should be for a footnote of a footnot<\/a>e, coming at him from a side-story.<\/p>\n<p>Kremlinologically, reading factnet&#8230; Rachel Brown &#8212; the woman who ran against Barney Frank &#8212; appears to have been slotted down the scales; &#8212; it&#8217;s Kesha Rogers and Diane Sare that come out of the cult&#8217;s &#8220;LYM&#8221; recruiting struggles, I guess &#8212; Jeffrey Steinberg disappears &#8212; and why wouldn&#8217;t someone like Harley Schlanger&#8211; carved out his space in conspiracy land &#8212; just drop the cult connection and move on to Webster Tarpley&#8217;s jib?<\/p>\n<p class=\"TweetTextSize  js-tweet-text tweet-text\" lang=\"en\" data-aria-label-part=\"0\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JeffDitzler\/status\/1095669532725792769\">So. <\/a><em> I had one indirect encounter with the <s>#<\/s>LaRouche movement, back in 2004 on the University of Pittsburgh campus. Thankfully, it wasn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t in person- they had a stack of newsletters out and I took one<\/em>.<br \/>\n<em>It alleged that something called the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Congress for Cultural Freedom\u00e2\u20ac\u009d was actually the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Sexual Congress for Cultural Fascism\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and part of Dick Cheney\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s plot to take over the world, or something.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>This is where they lost me.
