{"id":17139,"date":"2018-03-12T16:06:34","date_gmt":"2018-03-12T23:06:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/?p=17139"},"modified":"2018-03-12T16:06:34","modified_gmt":"2018-03-12T23:06:34","slug":"the-name-sounds-so-much-different","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2018\/03\/12\/the-name-sounds-so-much-different\/","title":{"rendered":"the name sounds so much different?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Steve Bannon has jumped over to France over this weekend, to participate in the National Front&#8217;s big hullaboballo convention, just &#8212; I suppose &#8212; as Marine Le Pen made her appearance at America&#8217;s CPAC conference &#8212; to some embarrassment amongst some conservatives.\u00c2\u00a0 Except, Steve Bannon wouldn&#8217;t have made an appearance at CPAC &#8212; what with his break from the Trump Administration&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230; though, correct me if I&#8217;m wrong.<\/p>\n<p>The big news at the National Front conference is the decision &#8212; or plan &#8212; to scrap the name National Front.\u00c2\u00a0 And what do we have now instead of the boot-strapping sounding &#8220;National Front&#8221; name?<\/p>\n<p>The National Rally!<\/p>\n<div class=\"content-list-component bn-content-list-text yr-content-list-text text\" data-beacon=\"{&quot;p&quot;:{&quot;mnid&quot;:&quot;citation&quot;}}\" data-beacon-parsed=\"true\" data-rapid-cpos=\"3\" data-rapid-subsec=\"paragraph\" data-rapid-parsed=\"subsec\">\n<p><em>Le Pen proposed on Sunday the party should rename itself \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Rassemblement National,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d which translates to \u00e2\u20ac\u0153National Rally.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Almost immediately after the big reveal, French media and experts on far-right groups noted the similarity to a party founded in 1941 to work with with the Nazis \u00e2\u20ac\u2022\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Rassemblement National Populaire.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Eh.\u00c2\u00a0 The lack of &#8220;Popularire&#8221; makes all the difference.\u00c2\u00a0 (Is that the &#8220;National Popular Rally in English?)<\/p>\n<div class=\"content-list-component bn-content-list-text yr-content-list-text text\" data-beacon=\"{&quot;p&quot;:{&quot;mnid&quot;:&quot;citation&quot;}}\" data-beacon-parsed=\"true\" data-rapid-cpos=\"7\" data-rapid-subsec=\"paragraph\" data-rapid-parsed=\"subsec\">\n<p><em>Another issue with \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Rassemblement National\u00e2\u20ac\u009d is that a smaller French right-wing party already has that name, and its leaders\u00c2\u00a0accused Le Pen of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153astonishing amateurism\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00c2\u00a0for trying to steal its banner.\u00c2\u00a0An official from the Rassemblement National trademarked the name in 2013 with The National Institute for Intellectual Property, according to HuffPost France.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content-list-component bn-content-list-text yr-content-list-text text\" data-beacon=\"{&quot;p&quot;:{&quot;mnid&quot;:&quot;citation&quot;}}\" data-beacon-parsed=\"true\" data-rapid-cpos=\"8\" data-rapid-subsec=\"paragraph\" data-rapid-parsed=\"subsec\">\n<p><em>Le Pen, in turn, claimed that the National Front will sue Rassemblement National for copying her party\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s red-and-blue flame logo in its materials. She tweeted Monday that the media should apologize for broadcasting Rassemblement National\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s statements, and called the allegations\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u009d#FakeNews.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Smaller parties don&#8217;t exist.\u00c2\u00a0 They can&#8217;t exist.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s a hybrid variant of America&#8217;s two party system and the general relationship with third parties &#8212; except in a multi party\u00c2\u00a0 run off system [although noted in the last couple elections, they are the second party] &#8211;\u00c2\u00a0 eventually you can&#8217;t claim to have a party.\u00c2\u00a0 Or maybe it&#8217;s how I saw this book for children entitled &#8220;Dog Man&#8221; (I believe written by the Captain Underpants writer) featuring the same cartoonish likeness for &#8220;Dog Man&#8221; as I had for Dog Man when I was a child &#8212; and probably a whole lot of other Dog Man child creators &#8212; maybe one of us should have copyrighted it, but then again &#8212; it&#8217;s a little too obvious.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Rassemblement national&#8221; &#8212; which can be translated as National Rally or National Gathering\u00c2\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Dog Man probably translates to French and then back to English as &#8220;Dog Gathering&#8221;?<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><em>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-france-politics-le-pen\/frances-le-pen-threatens-lawsuit-in-far-right-party-name-dispute-idUSKCN1GO28O\">Dear Marine, the RN (Rassemblement National) already <\/a>exists and you can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t deny that when it has stood against your candidates several times since 2014,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Kurek wrote in a letter he published on Twitter.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><em>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153The RN is Gaullist and republican right, the FN is extreme right,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d he wrote, referring to the National Front.\u00e2\u20ac\u0153The FN will NEVER be the RN and the RN will NEVER be the new FN.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><em>Speaking on RTL radio, Le Pen dismissed Kurek\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s claim, saying her party first registered the name\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Rassemblement National\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in 1986. She said she would take legal action against Kurek for what she called his fraudulent use of the National Front\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s flame logo as his party\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s symbol.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Oh.\u00c2\u00a0 Hm.\u00c2\u00a0 Were they just parking the name for future use?\u00c2\u00a0 And wouldn&#8217;t it be null and void by the similarity with the WW2 era Nazi occupation party?<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0<em>In France, trademarks and logos are registered with the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI). The INPI register shows that the brand\u00e2\u20ac\u0153RN Rassemblement National\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and its logo were registered to a Frederick Bigrat in 2013.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>[&#8230;]\u00c2\u00a0 <em>In a statement, the National Front said it knew that and had bought the rights by private deed last month.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Frederick Bigrat SOLD OUT, man!<\/p>\n<p><em>But Kurek shows little sign of backing down.
