{"id":16672,"date":"2017-07-22T17:48:23","date_gmt":"2017-07-23T00:48:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/?p=16672"},"modified":"2017-07-22T17:48:23","modified_gmt":"2017-07-23T00:48:23","slug":"nothing-new-to-report-about-the-man-in-the-white-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2017\/07\/22\/nothing-new-to-report-about-the-man-in-the-white-house\/","title":{"rendered":"nothing new to report about the man in the White House"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Oh. \u00c2\u00a0Yeah. \u00c2\u00a0The big gossip coming out of Washington. \u00c2\u00a0And. \u00c2\u00a0Wait. \u00c2\u00a0Wait. \u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/07\/20\/us\/politics\/trump-jeff-sessions-attorney-general.html\">Brash talk from Donald Trump, assailing his key aides?<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0 Like, we can&#8217;t see this in his history anywhere.<br \/>\n(He does have that bit of Lyndon Johnson doing important business with anyone he wants to powertrip over while doing important business by doing so while\u00c2\u00a0sitting on the toilet about him.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"372\" data-total-count=\"654\"><em>It turned out to be a preview of\u00c2\u00a0<a title=\"Times article.\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/07\/19\/us\/politics\/trump-interview-sessions-russia.html\">even more cutting remarks<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0Mr. Trump would make two days later in an interview with The New York Times: an extraordinary public expression of dissatisfaction with one of his top aides based on Mr. Sessions\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s decision in March\u00c2\u00a0<a title=\"Times article.\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/03\/02\/us\/politics\/jeff-sessions-russia-trump-investigation-democrats.html\">to recuse himself<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0from the expanding federal investigation into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"427\" data-total-count=\"1081\"><em>Despite Mr. Trump\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s avowal\u00c2\u00a0<a title=\"Interview transcript.\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/07\/19\/us\/politics\/trump-interview-transcript.html\">in the interview<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0that he would not have picked Mr. Sessions if he had known he would recuse himself, Mr. Sessions said on Thursday that he intended to serve \u00e2\u20ac\u0153as long as that is appropriate.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d And a spokeswoman for Mr. Trump, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, tried to moderate her boss\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s remarks, telling reporters later, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Clearly, he has confidence in him, or he would not be the attorney general.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"383\" data-total-count=\"1464\"><em>But even if Mr. Sessions remains in his job, the relationship between him and Mr. Trump \u00e2\u20ac\u201d the Alabama lawyer and the Queens real estate developer, an odd couple bound by a shared conviction that illegal immigration is destroying America \u00e2\u20ac\u201d is unlikely to ever be the same, according to a half-dozen people close to Mr. Trump. And this is not the typical Trump administration feud.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"383\" data-total-count=\"1464\">I can&#8217;t wait to see the National Enquirer dossier on Jeff Sessions any day now, and how Donald Trump is just &#8220;leading the charge&#8221; somehow, and a new demonization of Jeff Sessions to match that of everyone else.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"348\" data-total-count=\"2882\"><em>Mr. Stone listed a chain of events Mr. Trump often ticks off against Mr. Sessions: Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein took over the Russia investigation after Mr. Sessions\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s recusal, which led to the appointment of Robert S. Mueller III, a former F.B.I. director,\u00c2\u00a0as special counsel, which, in turn, led to irrepressible presidential rage.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"287\" data-total-count=\"3169\"><em>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153The president initially bonded with Sessions because he saw him as a tough guy,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Mr. Stone, who has urged Mr. Sessions to investigate Obama-era officials instead of Trump campaign operatives. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Now he\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s saying: \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcWhere\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s my tough guy? Why doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t he have my back?\u00e2\u20ac\u2122\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"235\" data-total-count=\"3404\"><em>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153<strong>There\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a lack of aggressiveness with Sessions, unless it involves chasing people for smoking pot<\/strong>,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d he added, referring to the attorney general\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s recent focus on marijuana offenses largely ignored under President Barack Obama.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"235\" data-total-count=\"3404\">Sure.
