{"id":14148,"date":"2014-07-10T17:33:01","date_gmt":"2014-07-11T00:33:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/?p=14148"},"modified":"2014-07-10T17:33:01","modified_gmt":"2014-07-11T00:33:01","slug":"crying-out-for-attention-because-how-else-is-he-going-to-get-any-traction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2014\/07\/10\/crying-out-for-attention-because-how-else-is-he-going-to-get-any-traction\/","title":{"rendered":"crying out for attention, because how else is he going to get any traction?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/online\/dem-totes-gun-shoots-at-creepy-pink-elephant-in-campaign-ad\/\">Hm<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m having trouble unscrambling the components of this ad.\u00c2\u00a0 So, Democratic prospect Estakio Beltran shoots at an elephant shaped pinata, as &#8220;what happens to an elephant who stand around doing nothing for too long&#8221;, and then he rides off on a donkey to Washington DC.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s labeled here as throwing &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.yakimaherald.com\/news\/latestlocalnews\/2323997-8\/long-shot-candidate-fires-back-with-tv-ad\">a hail Mary<\/a>&#8220;.\u00c2\u00a0 Maybe that&#8217;s the word we may as well use for advertisements whose main purpose is to get national publicity for low funded candidacies.<\/p>\n<p>As in&#8230; what does this ad even signify?<\/p>\n<p>(1).\u00c2\u00a0 He&#8217;s asserting his gun rights bonafides against the national Democratic Party&#8217;s agenda for his rural Central Washington district.<br \/>\n(2).\u00c2\u00a0 There&#8217;s something maybe gleefully politically incorrect about using the pinata as an icon&#8230; maybe?<\/p>\n<p>Trying to get to that whole Herman Cain attempt at a racial &#8220;I&#8217;m playing the part of some of your racial stereotypes just for the Hell of it&#8221; thing&#8230; See the National Review commentary.<br \/>\n<em>An hispanic man shooting a pi\u00c3\u00b1ata. That made me laugh. A lot.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>And riding a <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">burro<\/span> donkey. All that&#8217;s missing is a bottle of tequila.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\" See... http:\/\/www.bizpacreview.com\/2014\/07\/10\/violent-can-you-imagine-the-outrage-if-a-gop-candidate-made-this-ad-130753\">See therefor, almsot getting at one issue the NR might go to if Beltran were actually successful with this ad<\/a>:\u00c2\u00a0 <span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"><em>While the media\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s reaction to the offensive video is predictable, there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s little doubt that if a Republican candidate made a similar ad they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d be accused of promoting violence against Democrats<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 Interestingly, they don&#8217;t make the case on cultural and racial lines.<br \/>\nBecause&#8230;<br \/>\n(3).\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/gawker.com\/everybody-please-stop-shooting-at-shit-in-your-campaign-1603168945\">Huh.<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\"><em>This inane Capitol-cowboy equation of political struggle with armed conflict puts Beltran not in the company of compassionate statesmen, but in the company of Sarah &#8220;Reload&#8221; Palin, a Georgia anti-Obama redneck with a cannon, this Alabama Republican dude with his gun BBQ smoker, and the lady who brags about how well she can de-nut a pig.<br \/>\n<\/em>On the Palin ad I always half wanted to defend it from the insinuation associating it with the Gabrielle Giffords shooter anyways, so&#8230;<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Ugh.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hm.
