{"id":14136,"date":"2014-07-02T18:40:51","date_gmt":"2014-07-03T01:40:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/?p=14136"},"modified":"2014-07-02T18:40:51","modified_gmt":"2014-07-03T01:40:51","slug":"what-the-hell-in-mississippi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2014\/07\/02\/what-the-hell-in-mississippi\/","title":{"rendered":"what the hell in mississippi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>All accounts were that Travis Childers, the Democratic candidate for Senate in the state of Mississippi, was sitting on his campaign waiting for the Republican Primary to take place.\u00c2\u00a0 Should Thad Cochran win, he would have all but ceased campaigning, seeing about no opportunity to win the race.\u00c2\u00a0 Should Chris McDaniel win, he would have started his march toward what may or may not be an actual race.<\/p>\n<p>So, upon the primary victory of Thad Cochran, won with some black Democratic out-reach on the part of Cochran, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wlox.com\/story\/25926093\/childers-focused-on-november-says-its-time-to-move-the-state-forward\">we get this sour note<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153I certainly hated to see many members of our party cross over yesterday in a primary that quite frankly I felt like we had no business in,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Mr. Childers said.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s difficult to see if he has a point or not.\u00c2\u00a0 Certainly the Democrats who voted for Cochran in the Republican run-off had the consideration of not quite believing in Childers in beating even McDaniel, and knowing that Cochran is better than McDaniel.\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.news-journal.com\/opinion\/collins-mississippi-goes-for-the-money\/article_19c62bc0-27d2-514b-8b1a-28db2687d8ab.html\">And certainly some issues of self perception and reality were hashed out in Mississipp<\/a>i.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/msnbc\/chris-mcdaniel-my-opponent-stole-last-weeks-runoff-election\">The Republican run-off&#8230; continues<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 And it is a race for the ages!<\/p>\n<p><em>Earlier Wednesday, in a fundraising email, McDaniel said, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Thanks to illegal voting from liberal Democrats, my opponent stole last week\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s runoff election, but I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m not going down without a fight,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/em><br \/>\n<em>He called the election \u00e2\u20ac\u0153a sham, plain and simple,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d citing \u00e2\u20ac\u0153thousands of irregularities in the voting process.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/em><br \/>\n<em>A top adviser to Cochran, Austin Barbour, held a press conference on Wednesday afternoon calling on McDaniel to \u00e2\u20ac\u0153put up or shut up\u00e2\u20ac\u009d by either coming forward with verifiable evidence of fraud or conceding defeat.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153If they have hard evidence, put it forward,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Barbour said, according to the New York Times\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 Jonathan Weisman.<br \/>\nBut a conference call between Barbour and reporters afterwards devolved into yet another circus as McDaniel supporters\u00c2\u00a0crashed\u00c2\u00a0the line.<br \/>\nOne unidentified man asked Barbour about \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Cochran harvesting black votes like black people harvesting cotton,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d according to The Daily Beast\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Ben Jacobs.\u00c2\u00a0The phone line remained open after the call ended, where apparent McDaniel supporters speculated whether the bizarre \u00e2\u20ac\u0153cotton\u00e2\u20ac\u009d question came from a Cochran plant\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u009dor maybe Obama\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00c2\u00a0in order to make them look like extremists.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>So the horse race question: Is there any freaking way that Travis Childers can win against this fracture, and if so&#8230;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wlox.com\/story\/25926093\/childers-focused-on-november-says-its-time-to-move-the-state-forward\"> is he just going to repeat the word &#8220;Unity&#8221;
