{"id":13502,"date":"2013-11-27T18:31:38","date_gmt":"2013-11-28T01:31:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/?p=13502"},"modified":"2013-11-27T18:31:38","modified_gmt":"2013-11-28T01:31:38","slug":"kennedy-and-the-following-democrats","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2013\/11\/27\/kennedy-and-the-following-democrats\/","title":{"rendered":"Kennedy and the following Democrats"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Of note, the New Republic chimes in on the great debate &#8212; of sorts &#8212; to call Kennedy, indeed, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newrepublic.com\/article\/115522\/jfk-was-unapologetic-liberal\">a Libera<\/a>l.\u00c2\u00a0 Giving him a reference for his defense as &#8220;liberal&#8221; against the charge coming from the Nixon campaign, something Dukakis tried and failed to refer to in 1988.<\/p>\n<p>Notable here is the defense of Kennedy lying about a missile gap as not necessarily running to Nixon&#8217;s right, any more than Obama&#8217;s troop surge in Afghanistan was running to McCain&#8217;s right.\u00c2\u00a0 To which you can say&#8230; er&#8230; yes, and no.\u00c2\u00a0 Yes and no.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s still worth noting the fallacies of the Cold War.<\/p>\n<p>Also worth noting about this article <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/11\/21\/us\/obama-presents-top-honor-to-bill-clinton.html?_r=0\">where Clinton and Obama are paying their respects to Kennedy <\/a>(say&#8230; where&#8217;s the other living Democrat, Carter?)\u00c2\u00a0 &#8212;<\/p>\n<p><em>He has also criticized Mr. Obama\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Syria policy, saying that any president would be a \u00e2\u20ac\u0153total fool\u00e2\u20ac\u009d to avoid taking action to stem a brutal civil war because of public resistance to foreign engagement. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Hm.\u00c2\u00a0 Parse that out and I&#8217;m not sure Clinton looks that good.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Of note, the New Republic chimes in on the great debate &#8212; of sorts &#8212; to call Kennedy, indeed, a Liberal.\u00c2\u00a0 Giving him a reference for his defense as &#8220;liberal&#8221; against the charge coming from the Nixon campaign, something Dukakis tried and failed to refer to in 1988.
