{"id":12338,"date":"2013-07-08T08:56:55","date_gmt":"2013-07-08T15:56:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/?p=12338"},"modified":"2013-07-08T08:58:39","modified_gmt":"2013-07-08T15:58:39","slug":"wyo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2013\/07\/08\/wyo\/","title":{"rendered":"Wyo."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the supposed &#8220;Tea Party versus Republican Establishment&#8221; narrative, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2013\/07\/07\/us\/politics\/a-cheney-on-the-wyoming-ballot-if-so-a-problem-for-the-gop.html\">I can&#8217;t figure out where this one would fit<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Because she&#8217;d be running on the &#8220;Obama is a Commie&#8221; tack, overturning the incumbent entrenched Republican.\u00c2\u00a0 But it&#8217;s a freaking Cheney.<\/p>\n<p itemprop=\"articleBody\"><em>Ms. Cheney, 46, is showing up everywhere in the state, from chicken dinners to cattle growers\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 meetings, sometimes with her parents in tow. She has made it clear that she wants to run for the Senate seat now held by\u00c2\u00a0Michael B. Enzi, a soft-spoken Republican and onetime fly-fishing partner of her father.\u00c2\u00a0<\/em> [just don&#8217;t take him up on any proposed hunting trip.]<em><br \/>\nBut Ms. Cheney\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s move threatens to start a civil war within the state\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Republican establishment, despite the reverence many hold for her family.<br \/>\nMr. Enzi, 69, says he is not ready to retire, and many Republicans say he has done nothing to deserve being turned out.<\/em><\/p>\n<p itemprop=\"articleBody\">Curious enough.<\/p>\n<p itemprop=\"articleBody\"><em>The only reason Mr. Enzi would \u00e2\u20ac\u0153be in any difficulty is if there\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a weird group of Republicans who think compromise is akin to communism,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Mr. Simpson, who called Mr. Enzi and Ms. Cheney \u00e2\u20ac\u0153both wonderful people\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and, like many here, does not want to have to choose.<\/em><\/p>\n<p itemprop=\"articleBody\">Hm.\u00c2\u00a0 Yeah.\u00c2\u00a0 Mike Enzi is in trouble.\u00c2\u00a0 And then there&#8217;s&#8230;<\/p>\n<p itemprop=\"articleBody\"><em>It would bring about \u00e2\u20ac\u0153the destruction of the\u00c2\u00a0Republican Party\u00c2\u00a0of Wyoming if she decides to run and he runs, too,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Alan K. Simpson, a former Republican senator from the state, said in an interview last week. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a disaster \u00e2\u20ac\u201d a divisive, ugly situation \u00e2\u20ac\u201d and all it does is open the door for the Democrats for 20 years.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/em><\/p>\n<p itemprop=\"articleBody\">Urm.\u00c2\u00a0 I know they had one of those non partisan Democratic governors just a fortnight ago, but&#8230; there&#8217;s a Democratic Party in Wyoming?<\/p>\n<p itemprop=\"articleBody\">Note that further to Enzi&#8217;s right, and further to Cheney&#8217;s right, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kitsapsun.com\/news\/2013\/may\/17\/bleming-announces-another-run-for-wyoming-us\/#axzz2YTBXlM69\">there&#8217;s this perenial candidate<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the supposed &#8220;Tea Party versus Republican Establishment&#8221; narrative, I can&#8217;t figure out where this one would fit.
