{"id":11908,"date":"2013-05-14T19:07:44","date_gmt":"2013-05-15T02:07:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/?p=11908"},"modified":"2013-05-14T19:07:44","modified_gmt":"2013-05-15T02:07:44","slug":"the-latest-from-whidbey-island","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2013\/05\/14\/the-latest-from-whidbey-island\/","title":{"rendered":"The Latest from Whidbey Island."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I see from my blog&#8217;s search terms that &#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.whidbeynewstimes.com\/news\/199064381.html\">Orange Lights have hovered over Whidbey Island<\/a>.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.whidbeynewstimes.com\/news\/199064381.html\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>And thus we have this picture of this town yokel pointing into the distance. \u00c2\u00a0Presumably into the direction the orange lights were.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153We\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve seen a lot of stuff, but this was the weirdest thing we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve ever seen,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Dick Johnson, a retired civil engineer.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Orange lights!<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153The first thing I thought was Area 51 moved to Whidbey Island,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d he said.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Wait.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153I know what a helicopter sounds like; thump, thump, thump,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d he said. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153This was no noise.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>While he\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s more inclined to believe the lights were some sort of top-secret military project, as opposed to a flying saucer from outer space, the experience was more than a little startling.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Well. \u00c2\u00a0Okay.<\/p>\n<p><em>A\u00c2\u00a0Whidbey News-Times\u00c2\u00a0reporter also visited six different homes around the Johnsons\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 house, but none of the neighbors reported seeing anything out of the ordinary that night.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Several did express disappointment, however, at being left out.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153I wish I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d seen it,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Tim Oliver said with a laugh.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>A 23-year resident of the community, he also has a great view of the water and often observes marine and air traffic passing through the area. Oliver said he\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s never witnessed anything that might fit into the extraterrestrial category, but planned to redouble his vigil following the Johnson\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s encounter.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Now I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m really going to be looking out the window,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d he said.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This is, of course, that &#8220;X Files in the background &#8221; &#8216;Could be; could be not&#8221; feature story angle of the mainstream liberal media your ufologists are complaining about in terms of how these things get covered. \u00c2\u00a0It gets worse for the Johnsons&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><em>Another neighbor, who asked to be identified only by her first name, was home Saturday evening but said she also missed the excitement.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153That would be cool if it was (a UFO) but I didn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t see anything,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Janice said with a smile.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>While being interviewed, another neighbor drove by and Janice eagerly asked if she had seen anything.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The driver replied that she hadn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t but expressed the same excitement over the possibility.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Anyway, those wacky X Files theme song playing in the background tee hee stories bring us back to <a href=\"http:\/\/doubtfulnews.com\/2013\/03\/witnesses-in-washington-spooked-by-strange-lights\/\">&#8220;Chinese lanterns<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>And we have another photograph of the man<a href=\"http:\/\/www.southwhidbeyrecord.com\/news\/199069031.html\"> here.<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0His hand is moving to a different location.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153This is not something I was imagining,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Johnson said. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153I was sober, I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t drink, I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t smoke pot. \u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 I definitely saw what I saw.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d swear on a stack of Bibles,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d he said.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.whidbeynewstimes.com\/news\/199618741.html\">And now everyone who saw something is forming a support group of &#8220;No. \u00c2\u00a0We saw something&#8221;.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;They looked to me like hot air balloons released just for fun,&#8221; Shimek said.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>All right. \u00c2\u00a0I&#8217;ll keep you posted the next time I see Whidbey Island circulate in search terms.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I see from my blog&#8217;s search terms that &#8230; Orange Lights have hovered over Whidbey Island.
