Yeahs to Nays.  and the Nays win."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In lieu of gun control,\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/justice\/2013\/04\/17\/1881001\/liveblogging-the-senate-gun-debate\/#lbu-1366221825\">Mike Enzi has the answer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>There is no doubt that we need to do more to curb the senseless acts of violence that continue to occur in this country,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Sen. Mike Enzi (R-WY), an opponent of the underlining gun bill, said. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153One of the things we need are parents, parents to be more careful and more repetitive at telling their kids that it is not right to kill people. It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s not even right to bully them. And it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s definitely not right for them to kill themselves. Until we can get that message across to our kids, I hope that we don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t rely on a few votes by this body to make everybody feel comfortable that all the problem is taken care of<\/em>.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Worst &#8220;More We Know&#8221; public service announcement ever.<\/p>\n<p>Getting into the supposed\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/politicalwire.com\/archives\/2013\/04\/18\/manchin_still_pushing_gun_bill.html\">politics of that last gun control bill<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Sen. Joe Machin (D-WV) told the\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10001424127887323809304578430552196175898.html\">Wall Street Journal<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0that enough senators could be persuaded to revive and pass the gun background check measure defeated yesterday. He claimed that 70 lawmakers would have supported his amendment with Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) if the NRA hadn&#8217;t warned lawmakers that it would include their votes in its influential rankings.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Said Machin: &#8220;If they hadn&#8217;t scored it, we&#8217;d have gotten 70 votes. They made a big mistake.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The theory of this is that this bill will come back up and it will be tougher. \u00c2\u00a0Frankly, though, I align with the gun control &#8220;sour grapes&#8221; contigency of &#8220;just as well this didn&#8217;t pass&#8221;, but for different reasons. \u00c2\u00a0Whether or not something pops up that is more meaningful &#8212; we&#8217;re trapped in a noxious political cycle where the Senate map is unfriendly for Democrats in 2014 and stuck at the &#8220;other issues&#8221; pop up &#8212; I would rather have no bill come out and no pretense that something just happened than a bill come through with the illusion that something just happened &#8212; when it didn&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p>The bigger issue on the Senate bill defeat is how it is recorded &#8212; a whopping defeat &#8212; by a measure of 54 to 46. \u00c2\u00a054 voting for it. \u00c2\u00a046 against it. \u00c2\u00a0As in&#8230; the majority voted for a bill that is defined as a whopping defeat. \u00c2\u00a0(I see a snarky comment along the lines of &#8220;Ha ha! \u00c2\u00a0Obama said all he wanted was a vote. \u00c2\u00a0He got one.&#8221; \u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/politics\/archive\/2013\/04\/for-the-love-of-god-just-call-it-a-filibuster\/275087\/\">No, the bill kind of didn&#8217;t get a vot<\/a>e.)<\/p>\n<p>And for the record, t<a href=\"http:\/\/fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com\/2013\/04\/18\/modeling-the-senates-vote-on-gun-control\/\">he Republicans switching to yes and the Democrats switching to no<\/a>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Collins, Maine. \u00c2\u00a0Kirk, Illinois. \u00c2\u00a0McCain, Arizona. \u00c2\u00a0Toomey, Pennsylvania.<br \/>\nBaucus, Montana. \u00c2\u00a0Begich, Alaska. \u00c2\u00a0Heitkamp, North Dakota. \u00c2\u00a0 Pryor, Arkansas.<\/p>\n<p>And so it is&#8230;<br \/>\n<em>When reporters asked Sen.
