{"id":10910,"date":"2012-12-18T10:54:14","date_gmt":"2012-12-18T17:54:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/?p=10910"},"modified":"2012-12-18T10:56:03","modified_gmt":"2012-12-18T17:56:03","slug":"dukakis-mania-explodes-then-implodes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2012\/12\/18\/dukakis-mania-explodes-then-implodes\/","title":{"rendered":"Dukakis Mania Explodes Then Implodes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Every time there&#8217;s an interim temporary placement for a Massachusetts Senate seat (or&#8230; after Ted Kennedy died, and then after John Kerry was tapped for Secretary of State), speculation runs rampant that&#8230; maybe&#8230; maybe&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/senate\/273151-dukakis-seen-as-possible-senate-replacement-if-kerry-tapped-for-state\">Senator Dukakis<\/a>???<\/p>\n<p>The idea bemuses.<\/p>\n<p>Then, it seems, something always comes around and <a href=\"http:\/\/boston.cbslocal.com\/2012\/12\/17\/michael-dukakis-will-not-be-interim-senator-if-kerry-resigns\/\">punctures that balloon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153That\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a no,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d said Dukakis in\u00c2\u00a0reference to a possible appointment\u00c2\u00a0by Gov. Deval Patrick to fill the seat until a special election can be held. Dukakis also said he had not been contacted by the governor\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s office in regard to a possible appointment.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The last line is the crux of the issue here &#8212; words are not coming out of the governor&#8217;s office. \u00c2\u00a0The &#8220;Senator Dukakis&#8221; boomlet is all hot air out of the political silly season &#8212; it sounds like a cool idea to your politicos, so they run with it.<\/p>\n<p>And so ends Dukakis Mania.<\/p>\n<p>We do have the spectacle of Scott Brown making a political comeback by winning another special election. \u00c2\u00a0That&#8217;d be amusing too.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Every time there&#8217;s an interim temporary placement for a Massachusetts Senate seat (or&#8230; after Ted Kennedy died, and then after John Kerry was tapped for Secretary of State), speculation runs rampant that&#8230; maybe&#8230; maybe&#8230; Senator Dukakis???
