{"id":10776,"date":"2012-11-16T19:05:45","date_gmt":"2012-11-17T02:05:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/?p=10776"},"modified":"2012-11-16T19:05:45","modified_gmt":"2012-11-17T02:05:45","slug":"national-review-gets-a-little-weird","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2012\/11\/16\/national-review-gets-a-little-weird\/","title":{"rendered":"National Review gets a little weird"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I look into the last pre-election issue of the National Review. \u00c2\u00a0I expect I will have a bit of schaudenfruede at some things as they look about to various elections, but I&#8217;m too puzzled by some things to get there.<\/p>\n<p>So there&#8217;s an article by Jay Nordlinger on Congressional candidate Tom Cotton of Arkansas. \u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.powerlineblog.com\/archives\/2012\/10\/tom-cotton-of-arkansas.php\">Written in a kind of scat<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0beat. \u00c2\u00a0Full of weird incomplete sentences. \u00c2\u00a0To show a certain hipness and excited enthusiasm or &#8212; WHAT IS THIS?<\/p>\n<p>Skpping along pas the feature on Candidate Mourdock of Indiana &#8212; the most fascinating thing about the article is the formula of wrapping it around statements he made about Petyon Manning&#8230; and the same article format for candidate Mia of Utah &#8212; wrapped around half marathon running&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/nrd\/articles\/331647\/falls-shadow\">The cover article<\/a>&#8230; something like the opposite problem with the article about Tom Cotton of Arkansas&#8230; \u00c2\u00a0Pompous and serving no practical political purpose, I imagine it can be written about any Democratic candidate and it would be thus as meaningless&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>It unfortunately isn&#8217;t online, which is a shame&#8230; no, I suppose I wouldn&#8217;t want to vote for such shadows in the bleak plasticity our darkened souls or whatever the hell Michael Knox Beran is talking about (at times I feel like I&#8217;m reading bad teen angst poetry with this one*) &#8212; &#8212; too bad Romney didn&#8217;t work to expose this problem of Obama&#8217;s governance &#8212; his first debate would have sank him instead of knocking Obama astride.<br \/>\nI see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Tyranny-Cliches-Liberals-Cheat-Ideas\/dp\/1595230866\">Jonah Goldberg has a new book out on how liberals stake out the claim of non-ideology &#8220;whatever gets things done&#8221;<\/a> (like I&#8217;ve never seen conservative political figures do the \u00c2\u00a0&#8220;good ol common sense&#8221; card). \u00c2\u00a0Yeah. \u00c2\u00a0Well.<\/p>\n<p>* When I get the chance I&#8217;ll post up the particular piece of the article that brought that comparison to mind.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I look into the last pre-election issue of the National Review. \u00c2\u00a0I expect I will have a bit of schaudenfruede at some things as they look about to various elections, but I&#8217;m too puzzled by some things to get there.
