{"id":1054,"date":"2004-07-19T17:42:26","date_gmt":"2004-07-20T00:42:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/?p=1054"},"modified":"2004-07-19T17:42:26","modified_gmt":"2004-07-20T00:42:26","slug":"amish-rake-fight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.struat.com\/election\/2004\/07\/19\/amish-rake-fight\/","title":{"rendered":"Amish Rake Fight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a name=\"002509\"><\/a>After reading about Bush&#8217;s play for the Amish vote <a href=\"http:\/\/lancasteronline.com\/pages\/news\/local\/4\/7565\">here<\/a>, I&#8217;m left wondering what the historical Amish vote trendlines look like.<\/p>\n<p>There aren&#8217;t a whole lot of Amish political blogs out there, though I&#8217;m left pondering <a href=\"http:\/\/amish.meetup.com\/297\">what Amish use meetup.com?<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If I had to, I&#8217;d look up the specific counties of Pennsylvania and Ohio where the Amish congregate, to try to detect if there&#8217;s a blue or red streak in what&#8217;d surely be Republican (rural) counties.  Otherwise, here&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.holytrinitybuffalo.org\/loewmemoirs.htm#community\">Ralph W. Loew<\/a> getting out the Amish vote for a local hospital during the Great Depression-era.<\/p>\n<p>It looks definite that the population of the Amish who vote for national office are significantly lower than the overall population.
